I have an Athlon 1.133 (133x8.5) and I'm not sure what to try first. My motherboard is a Shuttle Spacewalker AK31. Can someone tell me what info you need I'll post it up here.

Well before you start overclocking what is your cpu temp under load?

Well right now its on 46. On a really hot day it goes to 50. This is just in Windows. But I don't know how to find out what it is "under load".

Load is when your cpu is at 100% usage for 10-15 mins.
Programs like seti, prime 95, folding will give you 100% cpu usage.
What heatsink and fan do you have?

it says High performance 6800rpm Thermo engine

Well it might be good enough.
Just have to keep a check on your temp's if they get to 55c under load then I would not recommend keeping the overclock.

Ok so you have a 1.133 cpu do you know if it is unlocked?

I don't know what the means or how to find out...

Change you multiplier to the next lowest setting from the default and boot if it boots at the same speed as the default setting it is locked if it boots at a lower speed its unlocked.
Example if defualt is 133x10=1333mhz.
Change multiplier to 9. 133x9=1198mhz.

52 full load.

i used Prime95

ok i set the multiplier from 8.5X to 7.0X and it won't even get up to detecting the video card, so I can't get into BIOS. How do I fix this?

Well Its up to you if you want to try overclocking like I said I don't like anything over 55c but I try to practice safe overclocking.

If your cpu is unlocked then you would change the multiplier to the next highest setting and run prime 95 for 10-15mins and make sure your temps are ok then run 3dmark 2000 or 2001 and if your computer doesn't crash then raise the multiplier to the next setting and repeat the test until you get lockups or it won't boot.

If your cpu is not locked then you would raise the cpu frequency 5mhz and run the tests and keep raising it unitl you get lockups or failure to boot.

hmm well i have no idea how to even get it to boot now - because I can't get into setup.

Your cpu is not unlocked then.
Try holding down the insert key on the keyboard while you boot.
If that dosen't work you will have to clear the cmos.
Check your manaul on how to do this.

will this cause my hard drive to lose all its data?

Clearing the cmos or holding down the insert key while booting will not cause your hard drive to lose data.
