View Full Version : W/U per day?
How many should my system be completing
Depends on the protein you get. The villin protein takes about 8 hours on mine (in my sig) with no oc.
Well to day I got done 2 villin's and one 1 Ch3 -27.110540
That looks about right. I haven't timed out the ch-whatever's but I think they're close to the villins.

I've benchtested the client on a couple of P4 1.7's and it was taking roughly 14 hours for a villin. And Intel is more expensive! What the @#$! Oh well maybe I should keep my yap shut before AMD raises there prices before I can buy one.

Man, I didn't realise that the P4 is so slow with Folding. My P3 will finish a villin in roughly 12 hrs. I knew the floating point performance of the P4 wasn't too great without SSE2 optimizations but that is terrible. I'm real glad I decided to build a new P3 tualatin box for Christmas instead of a P4 now. My t-bird box does about 3 villins a day and I hope the new P3 tualatin box will come close to that.

I get 1-2 wus done per day but i'm using the computer for a lot of other things too.

You should download and install "fold monitor" its helpful for this sort of thing.
Athlon @ 1.44 7.25 hours per villan 4.35 min. per frame (atom 392)
Duron @ 1050 9.92 hours per villan 5.95 min. per frame (atom 392)
I need to reinstall foldmonitor to check these numbers to be sure... I ended up figuring out I could produce about 5.7 WU a day with both machines folding 24/7 uninterupted and of course folding the standard villan (atom 392).
AMD is so much faster then the P4 its hard to believe a 1.7 Ghz P4 can only do a villan in 14 hours! I have two buddies with P4's one has a 1.3Ghz and the other has a 1.5Ghz but they both leave their comps off almost all the time so folding isnt an option.

Thanks for confirmation jetmech. So for our purposes(i.e.folding) the cheapest duron 1Gz(I'm assuming JB's duron is at least slightly oc'd) on pricewatch is 55$, the cheapest P4 1.7 is 177$. Sorry for stating the obvious, but it is very hard to believe. I know these price differences probably all wash out in the oem market but you would think intel would want to be a little more competitive in the retail market.

Maybe someone with Stanford should be notified of this so they could re-compile the exe with SSE2 optimizations for the poor souls trying to fold with the P4 because it would be to the effort's advantage.

Make sure you get the .exe file.

It would surprise me if they haven't done it or if they don't plan to in the near future. Intel is now sponsoring Folding@Home and is pimping it on their site along with UD.
