Any1 have trouble getting onboard USB to work on motherboards with a Via chipset? I can't get the driver for my USB controller to install in Win2k Pro, and Via's tech support is non-existant. I keep getting a data is invalid error message. I don't want to get a PCI USB card just to run a couple of devices!

What's your bus speed set at? USB ports may just not like your overclock much.

When I boot up Windows detects my new hardware (USB controllers x3) and automatically tries to install them, them gives me a data is invalid message x3.

I try to do this at FSB 133 to avoid any OC issues...

I tried uninstalling the drivers (which aren't installed/or don't work). Then I installed win2k sp2 and rebooted... same error

I uninstalled the bad drivers and installed via 4-in-1 v4.37, then rebooted... same error.

I'm fed up with this ****. I'm going to reformat my OS partition and reinstall everything. If that doesn't work, I'll have no other choice but to get a PCI USB card.

Have you installed the USB Filter Driver that enables the USB to work? You can get it from here (http://www.viahardware.com/download/index.shtm#4in1) just scroll down till you find it.

*EDIT* I just realized that it wasnt for my chipset but it worked:confused: Someone with more knowledge pls enlighten the both of us:eh?: :o

The "USB Host Controller" on your board may not be supported under W2K...

To identify your USB Host controller, start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe), and then locate the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SYSTEM | CurrentControlSet | Enum | PCI

Under this key are several keys with names similar to:
VEN_1002&DEV_4742&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_5C

Under each of these keys is a key with a name similar to:
3&225b1d41&0&0008

Click the key under the first VEN... key. In the right pane, note the data values for the following registry values:

DeviceDesc
HardwareID
Mfg

The DeviceDesc value is a REG_SZ value that contains a description of the device. The HardwareID value is a REG_MULTI_SZ value that contains the hardware revision of the chip set used in the device. The Mfg value is a REG_SZ value that contains the name of the hardware manufacturer.

Check the DeviceDesc value in the key under each VEN... key until you locate the key for the USB controller.

After you identify your USB Host controller, check the Windows Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) to see if your controller is supported. You can check the HCL at the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/hcl

I believe that the board you have shares PCI slot 3 with the "USB Host Controller", so if you have a card in the third PCI slot...you might want to try moving it to another slot. Also, you might also want to try upgrading to the latest BIOS if you haven't already.

Southbridge is VT8233... I know this hardware works with windows 2000 because other ppl have no problems at all. It's just a ghost issue with via chipsets, and something it seems they don't want to acknowledge or correct. There are two patches on the viaarena website... the usb 108 for a chipsets mpv3 &4, and a beta 74 usb patch for KT266 chipset (I have KT266a, but both use the same southbridge). I haven't tried either of these yet, because I fear if I use them and they don't help, then I'll have no way to uninstall them short of reformatting. I think the beta 74 patch will have a better chance of working, so I'll try that 1st.

I have 6 PCI slots and am only using #6 for a NIC. Soon I'll put in a soundcard and more than likely, a USB card.
