What software do you use to calibrate the colors on your monitor. I will be using it on both LCDs and CRTs if possible. I would rather it be purely software based so I do not have to spend more to get a colorimeter. It does not have to be perfect, but I would like it to at least be very close
Thanks

Any pure software based color calibration will means just using your eyes with a picture and a Color Checker. The color checker alone would probably cost as much or more then a entry level colorimeter. IE, there is no way to validate a color is correct, without a reference of the color. Its not like setting up the Gamma with a simple RGB gamma chart. Although you can improve your colors, it may not be that accurate. I've tried many times myself and just couldn't get a accurate enough color setting or even close to the same colors on different monitors, so ended up getting a colorimeter. Best money I've spent, as it also fixed up my games that always set thier own gammas and end up having too bright a setting or too intense colors.
Check out the Pantone Huey Pro (or regular Huey if you only have one monitor).

what would be the best colorimeter under $200
MaximumPC just did a review on the HueyPro...gave it a 9/10 and said it worked great. HueyPro is $130 and Huey is only $90.
you can get a spyder pro for under 200 as well.
