So I have a ECS Elitegroup P965T-A (P965/G965) ICH8/R i dont know what the model is so im just throwin stuff down here. Im runnin a C2D E6600 and 2 gigs of the D9 Micron G-Skills and a 7300GS and a 500GB SATA 3.0, im having some real problems with this motherboard and its IDE drives, im trying to make a bootable iso of Ubuntu 7.04 and use the Beryl theme and what not, and to also get familiar with how things work in ubuntu. But my DVD-R/RW drive doesnt work, and it never has, i can install stuff with the drive but i cnt burn anything to it because it says that its not detected and that its innaccesible, is it this crappy motherboard or should i just try and get a SATA drive cause the IDE controller sucks? Lol anyways thanks for the help

Well, it's no secret that ECS boards are garbage. However, are you sure it's the IDE controller and not the drive? Do you have another system to test it in? You may even want to try swapping cables. Finally, does that board only have a single IDE controller? If it has two, try the other one.

ye ive tried BOTH drives in a different computer and it works fine. It only has a single IDE controller, IDE hard Drives work just fine which is odd. Can you update an IDE contrller though lol?

Not unless you get a PCI card for it. They're pretty cheap, so it is an option.
