Ok first if this doesn't belog here please move it. Ok this maybe a stupid ? but here it goes. Awhile back my dad bought a computer they tech at Circuit City told him to leave it on 24/7 cause there is something in the computer that has to stay warm. Is this true? He really don't use it that much wel one because the computer he bought there died. So for Christmas I built him a new one. So is it ok to turn it off or does he have to leave it running 24/7.

Yes they're running F@H on it, but for the wrong team.
Seriously I think they don't know what they're talking about, I'm sure you can turn it off whenever you want to.
Granted when you don't turn it off you'll put less stress on the components, but that's about it (might last 2 years longer).

It never ceases to amaze me the idiots that they hire at these places....
No, there is nothing in there that needs to be kept warm. Go back and tell that kid he's a moron.

Well the kid is in his 40`s or 50`s. Ok cool thats what I was thinking but just wanted to be sure. You know what they say better safe then sorry. He already has one computer he can't use he don't need another.

I can't believe that. Keep your computer warm please...
I went to Staples yesterday to get a Bridge fan, and asked the lady if they had any, and she said "no, but try k-mart I think they have fans". I said "computer fans at K-mart?" And she said "yeah I bought one for my room from there yesterday."
I just stared at her for a minute like she was the stupidest person that I'd ever seen, and walked out.
BTW, Check out K-mart for thier excellent fan prices...:D

Well a reason to keep it on is everytime you cold boot it really taxes your PS. Also all those HDD's spinning up. It draws a lotta power.
=) One time I had the lights flicker when I started up my comp. those huge 5 1/2" HDD's can draw tons of power when spinning up.
As for keeping something warm..he might've been talking about the HDD. The oil inside shouldn't be frozen. But unless you hook a pelt to one of those or don't live in the extremes that won't be a problem.

After 2 days of windows running it needs to be reboot to run correctly anyways.
I'd turn it on for the day, but if it's not going to be used for a while then turn it off. I can see how turning it on for 10 min, then off, then back on 15 min later isn't that great for it. I'd bet it'll be hopelessly out of dated before turning it on and off causes damage, and if it does then you're buying the wrong brand.
I leave my desktops up for months, but they're acting as servers. My notebook gets turned on and off all the time and it runs just as well as the day i got it.
If your computer part had to be warm all the time, 90% of computers will be killed heh..
Your comp will run fine after 2 days except if your on cheezy win9x. Just make sure if you leave it on you use it alot if you don't then just turn it off.
