View Full Version : Anyone can teach me how to oc my Athlon
I have a AMD Athlon 550 MHZ, Slot A. And a PCCHIPS LMR800 motherboard. How do I do it???They say "U've got change the FSB". But how do I do that?!
THX!
my motherboard fsb is 200mhz
WLECOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!!
.....and to the addiction:eek:
The first thing you need to do is click on this (http://www.overclockers.com/topiclist/index04.asp#BEGINNER GUIDES)
Welcome to the Insanity!
Read the guides, read your mobo manual, and look at your bios: then, if you have any questions ask and all will be revealed!!!
The Single Most Important Thing In Overclocking is:
TEMPERATURE!
A HOT cpu is unstable and will die faster.
See ya!

man i hate people who ask this question, cause they obviously didn't check out oc.com, yet they are on the forums . .. weird . ..

I read the topics about overclock and still i don't know sh**. A friend of mine overclocked his processor throght the BIOS, where there's an option which can raise the volts and stuff... My BIOS doesn't have such thing! Now what?!

you will have to use some software such as softfsb. just do a search for it. softfsb is the only universal program i've used but there are others. you'll need to find out what pll you have. the program will probly tell you how.

THX! I've found this program. Let's see what it can do for me.
I think the program is not working. It doesn't have the model of my mobo. Is this matters? And what's that PLL manufacturer? There's nothing on my mobo manual about that PLL. And do I need to have the program always running to make the FSB change?
My mobo manual says the the mobo can take 200mhz of FSB. But in the program just have till 68mhz
OK, Solum- since you are going to have to use Soft FSB or some such I will not be able to help out much: I never did get it to work on my older stuff!
I think the PLL is the biggest thing you need to know for such programs because they get in and tweak the thing to change the FSB: if you don't set up the right one: LOCK UP! I did that at least 100 times before giving up!
I don't recall details of that stuff, but I'd suggest doing a forum search for softfsb, and maybe another thread "help with softfsb" if the search comes up with nothing.
I KNOW we have some people around who familiar with the software that MAY help you.
Bad news last: I still have one pc that is not overclockable: you may be out of luck with that system.
Yeah... maybe my system is no ocable.... a new motherboard would be the solution for this?
I'll look for help about this program.
THX!

I'm a newbie to overclocking and I have a AthlonXP 1600+@1.6GHz( 10.5 x 152 FSB). I booted up Win2k and ran some benchmarks fine. But when I restarted, I got a message saying that I have corrupted files and to run CHKDSK. What should I do first? Should I lower back down to stock specs and do a recovery setup(if possible w/o losing data) OR do I have to reinstall win2k from scratch. Should I make adjustments to voltages? Any Ideas? Please let me know.
Should I lower the FSB by doing 12.0 x 133 FSB = 1.6GHz?!?!?
Thanks!
Previous Setup:
Abit KR7A
AthlonXP 1600+@1.53GHz (10.5 x 145) 1.75v
Alpha PAL8045 w/Delta 68cfm
VisionTek Geforce3 Ti-200
Crucial 256 MB PC2100 DDR
20GB WD HD
Antec SX1040B 400w PS
Win2k Pro
I get the same thing when I go to high with my oc: go back to default cpu settings and reboot; if necessary, recover the os.
You should be ok to continue ocing after you get 2 or 3 good boots.
One thing I do when ocing a new system is to screw around with it and find the best settings ( takes me about 2 weeks to decide I'm stable) and after that I'll reinstall the os, etc, @default settings, then go to the overclock I ended up with. I think I get a more stable os and oc that way.
