I recently decided to try a "compartment" idea that I had been tinkering with. I have a delta screammer on my HS and its driving me crazy so I thought that if I cooled the system a bit more then I could slow down the fan with a rheostat (arriving today !).

The image is below and it shows the airflow in the case. I'll post another post without airflow.

At present I am using slim poster board to test this out, but once I am done I will cut them out of PVC and put rubber on the sides so as to minimize airflow loss/turbulence.

Here is the data:

BEFORE
--------------------
Idle Temps: (all in deg C)
MB 34
CPU 41-42
AGP 51
(Room Temp ~ 23 deg C)

AFTER
-------------------
IDLE
MB: 27
CPU: 38-39
GFX CARD: 47
(Room Temp ~ 24 deg C)

As you can see it makes a big difference. MB has the higher gains (besides the AGP card which now has most of the air from 1 side fan blowing almost straight at it) but CPU has credibles gains also. I will be moving the top side fan in front of the cpu (as in graphic below), at present its to the right a bit. This might knock another degree or so off.

I haven't recorded LOAD temps but I did notice that after playing Ghost Recon for about 1 hour on the baseline (BEFORE) I had a CPU temp of around 46-47. Now it doesn't make it past 42... even after 2 hours of gaming. And the MB stays under 30 all the time, its temps are ALMOST room temp, I doubt they will get any better with fans.

I am still trying different configurations, but for now I think this design test has been a good one and I will definately consider this mod on future cases.

Feel free to drop me a line if you have ?s or comments.

Here is just the design of the compartment. Left out airflow and a couple of other things.
