My monitor a viewsonic PF790 19" has what looks to me like a nervous twitch. The image very slighty but quickly looks to be moving back and forth. Refresh rates off maybe?
i had this same problem a few days ago with my sony trinitron.. do you have any portable heaters on in the room? anything that emits a large magnetic field such as a microwave?? is it close to a t.v. or speaker? mine was the portable heater that was causing it..

If your running win 2000 or winxp get the nvidia refresh rate fix. That shaking in your monitor is it doing 60hz probably the refresh rates are messed up in XP . I wish Nvidia or Microsoft one of the two would fix it .
I couldn't resist. The other two suggestions are most likely the correct ones, but I have to ask:
Are you sitting on a vibrating/massage chair? :D

Like the other guys stated, this problem can be caused by various electrical appliances that are in the general vicinity of the monitor. This happened to me at work but when I turn of the rotating fan it stops shaking.

Might be a stupid question but what the heck wouldn't be the first time. Is you tower close or recently moved next to the moniter.
I have to keep mine atleast 2 feet away.

I keep my desk pretty clean and the only item even close to the monitor was my speakers. So i turned them off and moved them. Still the same thing. I went and downloaded the nvidia refresh rate update and also the viewsonic driver for this monitor. I then played with the refresh rate which was default at 60HZ and raised it to 85HZ. It seemed to work or the problem if still there is so slight I can't see it. My resolution by the way is has always been set to 1280 x1024 x 32. I like it there for i run multiply programs at once and i resize thier windows so i can view most at the same time.

Does your monitor have a deguass option? This clears any electomagnetic buildup.
I do not know your monitor, you might have to look it up.

I had that problem a while back and it turned out to be what everyone said, interference from an air filter with an ionizer.
But, the filter was across the rome and plug into a different outlet, but it turns out it was on the same circuit.
So it may not be something that is close to the monitor, it could be something that is messing with the current to the monitor from another outlet on the same circuit!
I fixed my problem by getting a line conditioner/surge protector which I needed anyway:)
