Was thinking about getting 1 of these for htpc and putting on a silent coolerof some sort(if possible). Right now I have a 7900 gt. Is it worth the upgrade(or is it an upgrade?) Plan on playing some of the new games coming out like Crysis..Also Newegg just raised the price $15!!!! it was 264.99

depends on what res and if you like AA
flat out powerwise without much AA its a good card, if you like 1680x1050 with AA then 640 gts would be better, even a 320 edges it out.

also there's a couple new cards coming next month in this price/power range

The 8800GTS640 ~$350. The 8800GTS320 is in the same price range (~$260). The reports from those who have the 2900pro indicate good overclocking ability.

But as Rattle posted, you may want to wait a month for the RV670 which is a 55nm refresh of the 2900 but has half the TDP and is a single slot design and is reported to run faster than the 2900XT even though it only has 256bit memory pathways (though that may not be true if you run high res textures games).

also the 8800 coming reportedly is 600/1800 and has 112sp's this is the card I would be waiting for. the rv670 may have the same AA issues the 2900's have.
