I'd suggest the 8800GTS just for the sake of not having to deal with SLI. Also, if your sig is up to date, I don't think you'd have enough power to run 2x 8600's (or 1 8800GTS for that matter).

Furthermore, the 8800 outperforms the 2 8600's, according to Tom's Hardware's VGA charts

hmmm, i thought 420 would be ample, well i better ug that too, any recommendations?

I didn't think SLI supported dual screens yet?

Even without that, go with the single card. A PSU upgrade might be necessary, I don't know for sure though.

SLI is single screen only

the only time to get SLI is when a single higher card cant beat it, so in this case get an 8800GTS

That's a good card, I love my BFG! I would definitely upgrade your Power supply though. As with what rattle said, go with a corsair 520/620 Watt. Those are great psu's!

benscoobert, if your sig is anything to go by then you've only got AGP not PCI-Express, unless you are talking about for another PC in which case i will say get the single 8800GTS

And your CPU will be a bottleneck. I hope this 8800 is going into a new build.

The 8800GTS and 2900PRO are the top bang-for-buck video cards currently available, they both demand to be overclocked!
If you're upgrading your current computer, there's no point, your system is not nearly powerful enough to take advantage of either video card... and you don't even have PCIe...
A 550w PSU is enough for one video card, but you need at least 700 for two.

It does not cost to make a decent C2D rig... just look at my sig, that only costed me $700, excluding the video card... which I got for $100, it came pretty barebone, just the PCB in a bag!

not to be an a$shole about this, but i take it you didnt bother to search for this answer... cus its the same everytime, and we get the SAME question at least once a week.

but like everyone else has said an 8800gts 640 is da way to go

Not true, a solid PSU like the Corsair 520HX will handle two GTS cards just fine.

Not true, a solid PSU like the Corsair 520HX will handle two GTS cards just fine. It can on a somewhat barebone computer, but if you're overclocking everything wattage demands can rise sharply.

8800GTS 320mb, and get a dual-core cpu.
