My bud is having to much trouble running his games in xp so he wants to dual boot 98se/xp.One 40 gig and one 11 gig hd,how should these be hooked up?Master on primary and other master on secondary or master/slave on primary? Also has cdrom and a burner. Can he unplug the xp hd (40gig) which is G drive and format/install 98se on the 11 gig (c) then plug G back in and be good to go?

No that will not work right. it will cause all kinds of problems at bootup. His best bet is to do a clean install of Win XP on whatever drive he want's in on. Then install Win 98 on the other drive after. One thing to keep in mind though. Win 98 will not read a drive if it's NTFS. So if he runs a NTFS file system on the XP drive, When he boot's into win 98 it will not see the harddrive with win XP on it. But XP will see the Win 98 drive. Or you can run XP in fat 32 file system and win 98 will read both drives. But then you will lose some of the stability XP has to offer.

Actually now that i think about it. I think he'll have to install win98 first then win xp.

I know 98 has to be first but why cant the xp HD be unplugged while the other HD is loaded with 98se?If the xp is not detected while installing 98se on other HD I dont see where the prob would be.

If you install them that way you will not get a boot menue to choose which OS to run at startup. It will most likely ONLY boot the OS on the bootdrive or first hard drive. And can cause BSOD's at startup. Say Win XP is on the first HD and Win 98 is on the second. You may have to disable the first HD in the bios to boot off of the second. Or manually go in and set the bootdrive when you want to boot into the other OS. This all depends on the motherboard you have.
