well i had some issues with mine as well (8600m gt) .... and the only way i fixed it was buy downloading whichever drivers were on the Dell website under the Vostro... seeing how they don't have any in the inspiron

well for now i did downloaded a drive from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ and what i did was uninstalled all gfx drivers and then installed the 163.11 vista 32bit driver.when i rebooted my laptop and ran Company of Heroes (with latest patch) it was running fine now.
the only concern for me now is...... Does this driver version modded from the .inf of a GeForce 8600 GT? and did i do the thing right?---->>>experts pls comment on this.thanks a lot
i visited the website again and there was news on the 156.66 driver for mobile only....have to try again this driver if it works i'll update this thread.

Funny thing is that the Vostro 8600 drivers and the Inspiron 8400 drivers on the Dell site are packaged in the exact same file.

It's the same because they just take a default nvidia driver which works for all models as well and just edit a few files to make it compatible with the mobile GPU's.

Does Nvidia offer forceware drivers for their mobile gpus? I can't seem to find anything specific on their site. Hope I'm not stuck with Dell drivers.

That will work just fine. The modded inf file just allows the drivers to be installed on your 8600gs. So long as your games are working then everything is ok.

Follow the laptopvideo2go site.
I just saw recently on the nvidia site that mobile GPU's category was showing! It didn't contain any 8xxx series GPU's, but this is great news!
