Since this is my first post on overclockers.com I'm hoping that this is the right forum for this post.

My setup:
Epox-8KHA+
AMD XP 1800 w/Globalwin fan/heatsink

I have all the default settings for the FSB, Multiplier, Voltage for the CPU. I noticed in the Overclockers CPU Database that users are able to take the default 1.53Mhz and up it to 1.7-1.9. I've tried everything to get my CPU to overclock but I'm not having any luck. Am I not doing something right or missing something? What happens is, my system locks up tighter that and seals a$$.

Here are some configs for my same setup. I've tried them all without any luck....

#1) 1702Mhz /v1.85 /x11.5 /FSB 148
#2) 1621Mhz /v1.75 /x11.5 /FSB 141
--I wish--
#3) 2064Mhz /v2.15 /x12 /FSB 172 (??? I don't know how they get the voltage this high; my BIOS settings only go as high as v1.85)

Can someone give me advice on how to overclock this sucker? Gimme a link or explain what I may be doing wrong.

Peace out yall!:D

Welcome to the forums,
The 8KHA+ seems to require increased memory voltage to fsb overclock well.
Have you tried raising the memory voltage?

Nope, haven't tried it!

How much should I increase it by?

What brand of memory do you have?
Most consider 2.7v to be the "safe" maximum but some have been using 3.0v on that board.

Crucial PC2100 DDR High Performance

Crucial seems to be pretty voltage tolerant but if go over 2.7v there is a chance it may be damaged.
Working with locked cpu's is a pain because its not easy to tell if the trouble reaching a speed is due to the cpu or another part of the system.

I tried to up the voltage (both 2.7 & 3.0) on the ram but that did nothing. Still getting hard locks....

Getting 1700mhz from a 1800xp can be hard.
Make sure your cpu is staying under 47c.
You might want to look into doing a voltage mod to get more cpu voltage this can help alot.
You can pretty much forget about getting 2ghz unless you go to supercooling.

Here is a link to the voltage mod.
The "kit" they sell is a good idea.

A friend told me that I need to unlock it. Is this true?

Take all your pci cards out. If that makes a diff then it is one of your cards. What are your current temps? I would leave the vcore at 1.85 and the vdimm at 2.7 and find where you CAN go with stability. You may just need better cooling. What PSU are you using? What does the 5v rail look like?

Ok, you said in your original post that you just tried the speeds that you saw in the database. Don't do that. go into your bios and find the fsb setting, then bump it up slightly to like 135 and try to boot. if that works go a little further. Do it a little bit at a time.

Your friend wasnt entirely right. You dont have to unlock it to overclock. You can just raise the fsb. Unlocking it lets you change your multiplier. Dont worry about that just yet.

One more thing. What are your temps like? You have a globelwin, no problem there, but it might not be able to do its job if you have poor case cooling.
