Both of these cards were given to me. I have a Abit NF7-S v2.0 with a 3200 Barton (this is also new, to me, and about to be installed). I play WoW mostly and am looking to get some better FPS as mine sucks during graphically intensive fights. Which card is better suited for my needs? I am mostly a noob to all of this.

x1600 will be better . You have a good over clocking mb you should be able to get 200-400 more moz out of your system to make it even faster

is the 1600 an xt?

I've always thought 6600GT 256mb > x1600pro 256mb.

That also leads to my next question, is that 6600 a GT?

if the x1600 like stated is an XT id use that... if not and the 6600 is a GT then id DEFINETLY go with the 6600gt... i have a 6600gt AGP 128mb that when ocd could grab like 10k in 3dmark03, 4k in 3dmark05, and 1600pts in 3dmark06. gosh i love that lil card probably the most fun i have had ocing something.

QFT.

my 6600GT oc'd like a mad!

However, if it is a x1600xt 512mb GDDR3, if you overclock the core a bit, it would be decent.

Hm 6600GT is a generation behind the 1600, Id think the 1600 would match and or beat it.

the x1600pro was a really pathetic excuse for a card. Sort of like the 2600pro/xt of now. They are terrible cards. LOL

Now, the xt had a bit more oomph. If that 512mb is gddr3, i'd say skiimp ocing the ram and go straight for the core and max it out.

OK .. I would guess some more info is in order the 6600 is in fact a BFG 6600GT. It looks identical to the one on this page. (http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/bfg6600gtocagp/index.html)
BFG solutions take advantage of 2ns Samsung GDDR3 memory modules but the memory on the reference NVIDIA solution is clocked at 900 Mhz.

The X1600 is an HIS ICEQ X1600 Pro AGP. It can be found on this page. page. (http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/337)
Talking about memory, this video card uses GDDR2 256-Mbit 2.5 ns chips from Hynix (HY5PS561621AFP-25)

This page show how it faired vs other cards, since I am new this doesn't make a whole lotta sense to me. Link here (http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/337/5)

I am guessing that the BFG 6600GT is a better card. I would ask if there is a nice informative link to OCing this card.

Thanks in advance

take a look at Tom's VGA charts 2007. They've got a 6600GT and a x1600pro256mb to compare with.

EDIT: i just read that review, and it says it has 256mb of GDDR2 memory. Are you sure your card has 512mb of memory? And if so, what is its rated speed?

I guess this is the major reference?

6600 GT ( I am unsure if the BFG is different from this card in any other way besides the 525 core and the 525 mem)

Details
Noise Level: Moderate
Framebuffer: 128,256 MB
Memory Type: GDDR3
Memory Bus Type: 64x2 (128 bit)
DirectX Compliance: 9.0c
OpenGL Compliance: 2.0
PS/VS Version: 3.0/3.0
Process: 110 nm
Fragment Pipelines: 8
Vertex Pipelines: 3
Texture Units: 8
Raster Operators 4

The HIS X1600Pro 512 (Listed as DDR2)

Noise Level: Moderate
Framebuffer: 256,512 MB
Memory Type: DDR2
Memory Bus Type: 32x4 (128 bit)
DirectX Compliance: 9.0c
OpenGL Compliance: 2.0
PS/VS Version: 3.0/3.0
Process: 90 nm
Fragment Pipelines: 12
Vertex Pipelines: 5
Texture Units: 4
Raster Operators 4

Differences being the Fragment Pipelines and Vertex Pipelines, and the type of memory used and its size. (256 GDDR3 vs 512 DDR2). The scores I see for the X1600 Pro (256) put is below the 6600GT. See Here (http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/337/6). This should make the 6600GT a better card. Now to look up how to tweak it.
