View Full Version : underclocking
currently running P3 1100@735 1.95v for a burn-in
Has anyone else underclocked for a burn-in? If so what kind of results did you get, how long did you run underclocked etc....
My mobo is an Abit BP6 --yes its old but fast-- and I'm having some stability issues...if this underclocking thing doesn't work then I may have to swap out a capacitor which I'm dreading
I know the chip will run @124 FSB and will even make it through a full run of 3D Mark 2000 with great scores.

Yes, back when I had a Celery 600 in for my PIII system, I underclocked to 450 to burn-in overnight, everynight for two weeks. I was running very stabily at 1026 Mhz. I never ran into any stability issues on the Abit SA6R, running at 50Mhz bus speed. My guess would be either that capacitor or a divider being run out of spec at that low of a speed. Does your mobo automatically change PCI dividers? That would be my first guess... especially before replacing a capacitor which would be dreadful indeed....

Alright peoples I have a question here... capacitor:eh?: Why and where?

No divisors are out of spec...everything is set manually using Abit SoftmenuII. I'm not having any probs running underclocked the probs are running at stock speed and OC speeds.
The capacitor is the EC10 on the BP6 which controls VTT. Look here for more info http://bp6.gamesquad.net/Q6fix.phtml but anyway Abit put a 100uF capacitor on some revisions when its supposed to have a 1500uF and VTT drops below specs (to 1.3v on my board under load). I've been running stable for over 2 years now and this is my 4th chip for this board. Previous setups are single cele 500@600...dual cele 500@563...single cele 566@850 but this 1100 sucks more juice than previous setups

Thanks deez... I was a little lost there:D
no problem RainMaQer...I'm not looking forward to changing a capacitor if thats what I need to do.
thanks Abit:confused:
deez: Yes, the method to a better burn in is to have your voltages high with a low fsb.
Stablity problems: Check sandra and run some results espically with the ram.
What operating system are you on?
was having probs with 98SE initially...even at stock speeds now did a complete cleaning and put on XP Professional. I've also run tried NT4.0 and 2000 with similar probs on this chip
The problem is not the RAM its one stick of crucial pc133 cl2 and I've already tried other sticks with no luck.
its definitely the board the problem has been documented by Abit but I'm hoping with a nice burn in the chip will run stable
VTT is default 1.5v and stays that way in bios...under load drops to 1.3v
