Saw this at XS and thought it worthy of sharing.

If you're looking for good DDR2, you don't have to look any further than those...at at sub $100 for a 2 gig kit, the price is about as good as it gets...then again, maybe not. It seems that just when you think it has dropped about as low as it can go, a new bottom is found.
Anyways, it is priced well for today.

These 8500s are very good and known to regularly hit in excess of 650MHz (DDR2-1300), however, for many your response is the right response.
Only if you are really tweaking for the highest possible memory clocks or tight sub-timings would these be "needed". The 2 GB kit of 6400s that is available at Buy.com right now for a net cost to you for anywhere from $15 to $45 (depending on whether you use the 5% discount or the VISA $30, plus the $10 rebate for not getting the available magazine subscription) is just downright insane and is absolutely the best DDR2 deal that I've seen to date. See bottom of page 2 for all the details.

By the way, the above thread started as a deal for the Tracers, but they dropped it...I guess that they sold out real fast.

Geez, DDR2 prices are getting pretty ridiculously low these days. I don't see any reason to go DDR3 at all. I remember not too long ago paying twice that much for a DDR1 kit.

The prices really have dropped and so has the value of any ram that we are holding. On the bright side, come upgrade time you should be able to pick up some nice ram for cheap (relatively).

Yeah, I know what you mean about ram and the price dropping. I paid $300+ for a 2 gig kit of OCZ Plat PC2-7200's about a year ago. I just got in some Ballistix DDR2 800 from the egg today that I ordered on the 9th and had a $47 rebate with it. Total after rebate and including shipping is $61. I don't do buy.com as I think they are a screwed up store. Last time I ordered from them it took over a month to get all the order to my house.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with Buy.com.
I guess that I've been fortunate, as I've made about 5 or 6 purchases from them and have never had any troubles.
In fact, in most cases, the order has arrived early (I always go for the free or cheap shipping and they claim 7 working days, but I've gotten stuff as fast as 3 days).

I'm still mad about paying $130 for a stick of 128mb pc133 @ comp USA years ago. :)
