I may be new, but I have done some homework before making this post. Namely, I've read all the articles in the beginners section at OC'ers.com and have been reading here in the forums for the past hour or so.

I have a:

--AMD Athlon T'Bird 1.33 GHz (Socket A)
--Factory Heatsink (Retail Box) (used Arctic Silver II)
--Asus A7A266 (with ALi MaGiK 1 chipset)
--512MB DDR 2100
--Hercules geForce II MX 400 64MB
--300 WATT Power Supply
--1 Intake Fan
--1 Exhaust Fan

Here's my problem, maybe it's me, but I can't find any of these heatsinks you guys are talking about and I can't find half the heatsinks in the Tom's Hardware guide. I want the best heatsink for this system before I start to OC it. I'm thinking of getting the Millenium Glaciator.

Can someone suggest where I might be able to find it, or a better one? Also, does anyone recommed lapping once I get it?

Thanks in advance,
Kickin' Wing

Here is where to buy one.
http://www.millennium-thermal.com/start.htm

There are also links there to a few places that also sell them.

You don't need to lap the Glaciator its very smooth.

Welcome to the forums.

Its great to see that you've done your homework and learned enough to ask specific questions.

As to where to find these fans, one of the easiest ways is to go to Yahoo shopping area and do a search on their names.

As for the best heatsink, if you've read the front page then you can see that the best results were obtained with a Swiftech 462. You may want to go with a different fan however since the Delta fan is VERY loud.

If you have other questions ask away.

I have a glaciator2 and it rocks. I had a cak38 before and it just wasn't up to the job. I get better performance out of the glaciator with a lot less noise. Hope this helps.

I have the Alpha 8045 and it is as good as the swiftech but quite a bit cheaper...

I also have an Alpha 8045, and it's simply an excellent cooler. However, if I'm not mistaken, the 8045 (or some other really massive heat sinks) may not fit on the A7A266; there may be some capacitors or other components on the motherboard which are in the way. It's a biggun, so if you're thinking about this heat sink or a Swiftech 462, check the manufacturers' compatibility guides before you blow $50-$70 on one.

I would reccomend the Glaciator or Glaciator2. I have the orriginal and it works great. Mine is mounted on an Iwill KA266 and it's a little snug, but no big deal. For the price and performance the Glaciator is definatly my choice:)

The Glaciator 2 is awesome and very quiet, well worth buying

You'll not find these in Tom's guides cause he doesn't really run a site dedicated to the overclocking arts like this one is. So his roundup is a bit dated, and he doesn't really have the inside information that an overclocking site would to be able to know about all of these.

The Glacier II and Alpha Pal 8045 will not Fit on the motherboard that you have without modifications. They don't look too difficult thought. Just a bit of dremel work so the HSK will clear a Capacitor that is in close proximity to the Socket. The new Swiftech MCX462 will (Should, they *Guarantee* it will) fit that board with no mods. And it is an Excelant performer. But it does run about 60-75 Bucks.
