View Full Version : New bong?, or tired old bad one?

I was kicking around ideas about self filling bongs and the evils of tap water vs. copper, and wondered about this design.

It's built in an igloo cooler (thanks to the gent from hawaii) and actually has two seperate water systems.
Basically, the lavatory valve in the bottom gets it's supply from the house water. The pump recirculates it to the top piece of 1/2 copper tubing. The tubing has 60 (undecided, no math done yet) holes of about 1mm to equal the i.d. area of the copper, so the water doesn't jet, it cascades down the sides.
The central ducted inlet fan also has an elbow on the top to bring it's supply away from the 5 exhaust holes. One complete circuit.

Circuit 2 in the green is for waterblock circulation only. It has a res to let out air, and is capped tightly. The copper coils provide 414 square inches of external surface to the cold bong circuit. (22 ft. length for 7 1ft. coils)

The whole lot sits on a stand and has the usual disconnects, and shutoffs.

The idea is to have a quiet bong, self filling, clean water to the w/b, and still maintain performance. I've tried the cascade instead of showerhead idea, and it works even in 4" pvc bong.

Any way, here's the pic. Let me know what you think, please.
Thank-you.

So you're keeping the tapwater seperate from the rest of the system, good plan!

Dunno if I'd get around to running a line for self filling but the "radiator in bong"
approach certainly has me thinking more favourably of them, since the water round here is really hard and I realised that running a bong would have me having to descale my block every week or so.

I was looking at a largeish humidifier in walmart the other day that seemed like it might do enough to be able to use as a cooler, it had a real big reservoir in the base you could easily drop a small heater core into to. I know humidifiers don't dump the cold into the reservoir as well as bongs do singe it's not pump forced, but this one kinda looked like it would have some cooling effect.

Anyway, looks good Diggrr,

Thanks. I have a softener, but I'd also add some descaller to the water for humidifiers. The fill line could just be one that supplies a fridge for ice cube makers.

Yeah I've seen those small lines and the ones for furnace humidifiers, you can get a clamp valve with a spike on it to tap into a copper water pipe, from hardware stores. Thing is I'd be running about 40ft of PVC tubing to the nearest accesable water pipe, and I'm moving soon. Maybe I'll be closer to one then.

When I move, I'm thinking of making one HUGE bong, floor to ceiling, vented outside, mains fan, door to put a couple of cans of beer in it.... Aiming at getting one powerful enough to go frosty. I'll hafta run a filler line to that sucker I guess.

looks like it would work well in fact! only issue i see is the bottom connection of the lavatory valve, you'll have to put it onto a table or something to allow the connection to leave the reservoir. I've toyed with my radiator in the bong water and using none of the water from the bong at all, it does cool just a little better than when the radiator is just in the case and no bong connections, but the best i've seen temp wise is when the bong's in full swing. the 5 gallon reservoir really is nice, not only does it provide a sturdy base for a taller tower, but it holds much more water obviously so you don't have to fill as often. keep us updated as to how it works. I'm working up a filling system as well, only mine comes from a distiller that i found at a yard sale real cheap. only issue is that distilling takes a long time to accumulate any large amount of water, but i think the amount of water i make vs the amount i evaporate (use) should be proportionate to one another. i'll see how it turns out after the holidays, the 'wife' is hounding me to get all the lights done and the house fixed up for company. dunno why, since everyone's gonna go to the beach anyhow.

*Bump*

These two are most respected, but I was hoping for more input. Guys?....
