I am about to drop some cash on a new mobo and athlon xp.
I am looking for a good value agp4x video card, under $100.
I have found a geoforce 2 mx400 64mb for $75
But the VISIONTEK Xtasy 5632 GEFORCE2 GTS-V 4X/2X 32MB AGP is only $65

the memory is half of the mx400?????

I really want to get the best bang for my buck, I am just now starting to "game" with my son so all of this video hoopla is new to me.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, if I need to look into something totally differnet I will.

From what I've seen a GF2 Pro/GTS will outperform an MX400 even if the latter has twice the memory... has to do with the actual architecture of the GPU.Could be wrong though.

i agree with rainmaquer... the gts has more bandwith and pipelines than the mx400... the "best bang for the buck" nvidia vid card at the moment is the geforce2 gts. the mx400 could run current games but not as smooth and detailed as the gts even if it's half the memory of the mx400. like what rainmaquer said, it has something to do with the architecture of the GPU.

Your best bang for the buck is flat out the Radeon 7500 retail version. Check pricewatch.com out I believe you can get a retail for $108 at www.newegg.com

In all/most tests the 7500 pretty much on par with a G2Ti200 and when overclocked it is = to an overclocked Ultra. The latter of what I have said being equal to an Ultra is personal results I have found by comparing my system to others that are similar but are using overclocked Ultras. My 3 D Mark2K1 score was highewr than the majority of them with very similar setups.

Read a new review on the 8500 and 7500 done Dec 3/01. I contacted the guy who did the review and asked why there was no overclocking done to the 7500 in the review. He replied that some newer retail versions that are being shipped have 3.6-3.8 ns ddr ram and he would like to get one of these to test.

The 7500 is giving you newer technology, the best 2 d video , TV out @ 1024x768 which nobody else does and great dvd support plus dual monitor. Also support for some DX8 but not all DX8 features.

You will not be disappointed with a 7500. Mine was able to do a 25% overclock from default , that is flat out a great deal.
