most use a screw down method where the block has 4 holes on the corners that screw through the motherboard. some folks use the hold down devices that clip to the socket clips and screw down against the block. not all blocks accommodate that though. look over at overclockershideout.com and check out their hold downs and see what you think, then develop a home made job for yourself. i use the screws, but i've also used the devices, just bought them instead of making them, too lazy/busy i suppose.
I just use a piece of 3/16 plexiglass. I put two 3/4 inch holes in to fit over the hose fittings, and four 1/4 inch holes for the four bolts.
My blocks are usually tall, as I make them out of the sewer pipe end caps with a copper plate on it, but I've seen some quite like mine that have a bolt in the middle that tightens against the center of the block (directly over the core). This aleviates the need for springs, as the actual holding force is centered above the core.
Easily made at home with a hacksaw, drill, and a couple pieces of hardware (nuts and bolts).

Yup. check out http://www.dangerden.com or the tips on the front page. There are more pics and instructions there. I think the new version has springs on the screws.
I wish I had a better gold down device.
just 2 hooks that grip one of the socket cleats (the center ones) on each side..
it suxors.. I took it apart yesterday to soo why my temps were so high..
apparantly I didn't do a good grease job, and now because of the way I have my tubing set up I can't just reapply the block easily, I chiped away at some of my core !!
:(
still runs, same temps, I'm guessing I just won't get a good fit... I think I'm just gonna save up for a Koolance.
:D
There's also this thing, which I don't know the name of.
It has a screw thing coming out from the center and clips go through it which mounts on your Socket ears.
I wrote a small article on this last month with a detailed template which you will find here;http://www.overclockers.com/tips722/
