I originally had 98 on my D: drive and XP on my C: Ran into probs in 98 cause some registries were under C: (??) So I switched. Now I can't boot into safe mode in either OS. Is this a usual thing? 98 will not do a scan disk either when comp is not shut down properly. Any advice out there?

Thanks,
Dr.

With a Linux boot manager in the MBR of my C:\ drive that has Win98SE on it, I have the same problem. I can't boot into Safe Mode, at all. If you have to boot into Safe Mode in Win98SE, all I can suggest is removing the boot manager from the C:\ drive's MBR.

In case you don't know how, just put a Win98 Startup floppy in the A:\ drive. Then, from the A:\ prompt in MS-DOS mode, type "fdisk /mbr" then hit "Enter." You'll get the A:\ prompt back in a couple of seconds. Doing this removes all non-Win98SE boot instructions from the Master Boot Record of the C:\ drive.

*Warning, Will Robinson.*

I don't know if this works if you have a boot menu/boot manager that's not from Linux in your C:\ Drive's MBR!! Try at your own risk. Or wait for a response from a Win expert!

Thanks klosters64a. If I get no other responses in the next couple of days I'll try it. If something goes wrong it'll be no big deal as I'm thinking of going back to a signle boot w/ 98 on it any way.
