in windows xp pro, no matter which program i use(nero,
easy cd creator, nti, cd clone) when i try to copy a cd,
it wont work. i have 1 cd rom drive, and 1 cdrw drive,
but they are both on the same eide cable, so on the fly
copy is not possible. i go to save it to harddrive first,
but when it goes to write the image, it will do the first
860 of 333000 block right away, but it will take forever
to do the rest. the cd rom drive it is reading from is
spinning like crazy, but it goes so slow, it would
probably take 5 days to get the image file.

i tried it with different cds, and i tried getting an
image from both cd rom drives, but the same thing
happens. i updated windows with the latest windows
updates, and i have the latest version of all the
programs and drivers. what is the problem?

what version of each software are you using because you can only use adaptech 5 with the patch for xp and nero 5.5.4. i don't know about cd clone or nti though

MS has released an update for XP that they entitle the "CD Burning" update. I know it helps for some, others don't need it. May be worth a look.

For backing up to Cd I love Xps drag and drop facility. I am getting clone CD soon, I know that it works in XP (I know someone who has it)

heres what happened since:

my xp wouldnt boot, so i installed a new version of xp in dual boot. it booted up fine, and my cd burning software wouldnt work, so i used windows built in software. i burnt all my 700megs of 3dfx files onto one cd, and all other documents onto another. i format the computer fully and install xp. everything works fine. i go to get the files that i backed up off the cd, and the cd doesnt work. i can see the file names, but i cant open any of the files. i tried it on a few different comps, and the cds dont work. here is what i lost:

all my 3dfx stuff(700 megs).
10 hours worth of work for my job.
all of my documents for the past 5 years.

there goes the website i was going to make for 3dfx. and now, cd burning still doesnt work on xp. god damn windows xp! damn it to hell!!!!!!!!

ouch, sorry to hear that :( as a small side note, what is "burning on the fly" that you mentioned in your original post? i'm guessing by what you said that it involves having a cd and burner on different ide channels. any more info?

Crap dude, you should ALWAYS CHECK THE CD AS SOON AS YOU BURN IT if it THAT IMPortant.

yeah, it was partially my fault for not checking it.

i got my 3dfx cd working, with iso buster. the other cd just wont work, no matter what i tried.

i still cant copy a cd. i tried cd clone. nothing will work.

on the fly copy is when you copy the cd from 1 cd rom drive to another in real time. it doesnt save the data on the hd.

Did you go to the Windows update site like some of the others suggested? If not there is a update there for cd burning problems. After the update reinstall your burning software again. Also, try just using 1 burning program installed at a time, "sometimes" using 2 can cause problems.

I am using xp with 2 burning programs (Nero & My CD Record Now) and no problems at all.

Good Luck :)

That happened to me as well with XP. Burned a whole HD onto a few disks. Well over half of the files on the disks didn't work. I put in the cd burner fix and all was well after that.
