What are a few good applications that really put stress on the cpu and video card that I could run in a loop? I want to see how hot my system gets under full load.

Hi hawkeye_wx,
3DMark2001 is the best to stress the vid card/system, like just suggested by Sonny , and to check the Cpu stability you can use Folding@home, Seti@home, Prime95 or Stability test :)
I hope it helps you ;)

I dunno man, I'm not a big fan of prime95 or any of those others listed. I've found that quite often a cpu will do that stuff just fine, but when you fire up a game it'll bomb out. For stability testing of both video and cpu I use Unreal Tournament. For testing CPU, lower your resolution to 640x480 or lower so the vid card isn't the bottleneck, set yourself to spectator only, then load up a botmatch on some level like deck16II with about 20 bots. Hit F1 to bring up the score and time so you can see how long it took to lock up, (if it does) and press the fire key to follow a player around. I usually let that run for a day or so and then declare the cpu stable if it completes. For testing vid card stability, do the same thing but crank the res up really high.
Oh, and be sure to turn off any cpu cooling programs, and run prime 95 in the background or something.

im a fan of cpuburn and program like that. (cpuburn is at http://users.ev1.net/~redelm/)
There is a program called toast. it raised my temps 4 degrees higher than Folding@Home. Toast (http://www.aoafiles.com/dafiles/CPU_and_Motherboard_Files/CPU_Stability_Testing/toast.zip)
