I have a q6600 B3 step, on a Asus P5K. Latest bios and whatnot. I am using Thermalrights Ultra Extreme1 120 heatsink and AS5 thermal paste. I set this up to a T. I am also using a scythe SFF2121E fan for my cpu 120mm.
my temps right now after 1 hour of 4xP95 are 69 69 59 60. They seem high for my setup. The last 2 temps are lower by 10c?? Is that normal? Can you guys give me any tips to lower my temps? I am running my cpuv at 1.38 and 3000 flat mhz. Seems so high for such a little 600mhz OC no? Please help!!

Not sure about the regular temps of an overclocked Q6600. But a very common mistake is that people put too much thermal paste on their CPU. Might be something to look into.

I put on the exact amount that AS website said to. The little horizontal line right across the proper way on that pdf. I am not sure what to do. Maybe lower the vcore volt?

yeah that vcore seems quite high. try dropping that down to stock.

No it didn't work 1.38 is the lowest I can go at 9*333=3000. Fails4xP95 about 5min. Put it back to 1.38 and 4xP95 is hauling right now. 3gig is good. I just wish I had the temps lowered a bit.

dont forget that it isnt very often you actually load the cpu as much as p95 is. So you may most likely not see the same temps otherwise

Had it for 1 hour on 4*800 1.5 volts. After 1 hour it bluescreened. I wonder why it took so long...heat perhaps?

400*8 ? lol
What were your temps at that? Doesn't look too bad. Run it stock @stock voltage and post you temps. (p95)

If you get crazy temps at all-stock you might have the same problem I did. I got a B3 quad from newegg and for whatever reason it was impossible to cool it. When I returned it to newegg they hinted that I wasn't the only one with a really broken B3 q6600.
Just keep an eye on it. If it keeps up like this despite proper TIM application and a nice tight heatsink mount then watch it like a hawk for instability or leaking magic smoke.

Sounds to me like the thermal paste is not spread properly. Try remounting your heatsink. It may take a few tries to get a good spread.

I just put like .. pea sized drop of AS5 right smack dab in the middle. The weight of the sink will spread i nicely. (I had to reset mine because i messed up the bracket thingy, and happened to look at the AS5, was spread almost perfect)
as5 recommends putting a line across the two cores on a quad. I tried the old pea sized method on my quad and it didn't work too well.

Do the razor blade test on your heatsink. I blame your TR120x. Mine was round as a mountain until I lapped it which dropped my temps by 7°c

The pictures on the AS5 website are a little misleading. If you put down a line as thick as the tip of the AS5 syringe then you have put too much. Put down about 1/4 of that and then use the tip to make it a longer thinner line.

my temps on my q6600 seem to be high like yours... i've accepted that fact with my overclock and it doesn't seem to be a problem as the temps don't get very close to the t-junc...
