Just got my Q6600 tonight posting nice and stable @ a stock 2.4 with orthos load temps of CPU 33c - Core0 33c - Core1 28c - Core2 24c - Core3 27c, are these o.k????

So I had a little go at overclocking her and I decided to start with 3.2.

Went ino the Bios entered 400FSH 1.375V and a multipler of 8 which should equal 3.2(Asus P5B deluxe).

Rebooted and noticed straight away on the POST screen it showing 3.6!!!!!

Went back in straight away as I didnt want to boot @ 3.6 with that voltage to see if my settings had been changed, and sure enough they had saved O.k.

I changed the settings to 400*9 and sure enough it posted 3.6 then back again to 400*8 and its still showing 3.6?????

Ive put it all back to stock for now to ask this question.
What do you think it could be, hoping I can still use multis of 8

Disable Speedstepping and CE1 in your BIOS.

Thanks for the quick response whats CE1??????

Thanks for the quick response whats CE1??????It lowers the voltages when speedstep lowers the core speed, to further decrease heat output.

Something that DROPS clocks and voltage (along with speedstep) to reduce power consumption. I've never heard of either of those raising clock speeds. Try updating your bios and clearing it completely.

O.k I disabled CE1 but I couldnt find stepspeed I guess I dont have the option of disabling on my board? Turning off CE1 didnt make any difference.

I update my Bio last night as it happens to the latest and greatest version. I used to run my E6600 @ 400*8 without anyproblem on this board. Surely my bios update hasnt upset thing?

What does CPU-Z say?

Have you tried 7x or 6x?

It wouldnt boot though I only tryed a maxium of 1.4v so it appears it actually trying to boot @3.6 and it isnt just displaying it??

7x and 6x multipuls didnt make any difference either, its like its always default back to 9x although the setting saves o.k in the Bios...?

Looking at your temps across the 4 cores looks like you need to re-seat the heat sink as your max variance is 9 degrees, you'll get better heat transfer is your interface across the 4 cores are optimized

I was using speedfan before the temps where way out!!

Coretemp currently show under full load 50-50-49-51c......thats more like it!

Anyone got any more ideas this is really starting to annoy me as I want to run 400*8

Have you tried doing a clear CMOS, and re-doing all your OC settings manually again?

Yup Ive tired that just seen on the Asus website it appear to be a problem with the Bios version I have!
