I'm trying to Overclock for the first time. I've bumped up the FSB on my Athlon XP 1900+, and started to run the Sandra Burn In. I was running SmartGuardian in the background, and the alarm went off because the -5 Voltage dropped to -5.5 Volts. Should I just bump up my VCore? I've seen them posted as high as 1.85 Volts.

Also, what is a good CPU temp when running idle, after OCing?

What kind of Power supply do you have and how many watts is it?
The -5.5 is kind of messing me up ,do you have a screen shot of the alarm you are useing just so I can get it straight?

First it would help if you told us more about your system, mobo, cooling etc. Yes I would take your vcore to 1.85 then try a FSB of 145 to start. I would also up the vdimm to 2.7-3.0 if it is adjustable in the bios. I wouldn't be terribly worried about the -5v. People always worry about "idle" temps, that makes no difference. I like to keep under 39C at all times.

Well I can tell you this ,your +5 volt rail is a little low ,especially if thats not under load ,but please do give us your system specs.

I do believe your power supply is giveing you the problem ,but have you tried to ignore the alarm to just see how far you can push it?Here is my voltages and my system is in my Sig ,this is on a 300 watt power supply and at 1580 mhz ,also notice the core voltage is at 2.02 .

*edit* also look at my -5 volt rail

Should I be concerned with the temperature? Mine is usually in the mid-40s. I see a lot of 30s and even 20s.

No ,just try to keep it under 50C and you will be fine ,even a little over is ok.

My CPU temp hasn't changed from the 43-45 degree range, even when I bump up the FSB and run Burn In or Tribes 2. I think it will handle a decent OC.

Thanks everyone for all of the help and advice!!!!

I'm having problem trying to unlock my Athlon XP 1600+. I superglued the gaps and used conductive silver epoxy(from CrazyPC) to connect the bridges in L1. When I booted up, the CPU either shows up as a Athlon 1200MHz or AthlonXP 1444MHz(if i remember correctly). I got this on my first try so I did it again from scratch. I got the same thing. Could you help me out? Do you think is the silver epoxy(not being too conductive) or what am I doing wrong? Any tips! Thanks!
