I have an Athlon 950 Socket-A on a FIC AZ11-E. I tried O'Cing to 1GHz (10 * 100fsb @ 1.7V core) but I keep on getting reboots everytime I play DVDs under WinXP Prof. As soon as the DVD started playing, WinXP does an abrupt reboot. So then I reset the CPU speed to normal rate (9.5 * 100 fsb @ default core voltage) but the reboots are still occuring. I have 384Mb of PC133 Micron SDRAM. I am also using an ALPHA heatsink/fan on the Athlon with Arctic Silver. MBM reports CPU temp = 32-38 degC. Video card is Inno3D Geforce 256 AGP.

What could be the problem here (RAM, CPU, Video Card)? DO I need to bump the core voltage to 1.85V? Should I use CPUIDLE (under WinXP)?

Thanks.

try bumping more Voltage to your CPU... The CPU might be consuming more that waht you feed to it ( a common reason of reboot probs )...

Does your PSU have enough juice to power the computer?
what is the watt of you PSU and the voltage. on the +5v it should be able to handel at least 25 AMPs.

also I think it could be your video card (GPU).
try to get all the latest driver for your hardware.

Oh one more thing.
U might want to download and install the driver for you Via chipset.

I was running w2k with Gforce2 MX and first it hang one me when running any video or game.
I upgrade Gforce driver and then it hang only in OpenGL games.
Now I upgrade every thing and doesn't hang any more.

here the link to download your MB chipset driver.

get the 4-in-1

good luck.

Two things come to mind and they have both been mentioned.

My first thought was what is your psu. If your five volt dips when you go to play dvd's that could cause reboots try using mbm to check your voltage.

The second would be drivers. I would try removing the drivers and reinstalling them.

OK. I upped the vcore to 1.85v. The reboots are still there but not as frequent as before. But when the system crashes, I get the BSOD with a STOP 0x0000000A IRQ_NOT_OR_LESS_EQUAL error, then it reboots. And that's just when I am browsing around on the Internet! But it's more of a random occurence though.

My PSU is an Antec PP-303X ( I think that's 300W). MBM reports Core 0 = 1.85v, Core 1 = 2.44v, +3.3 = 3.29v, +5.0 = 5.00v, CPU = 29degC @ 1000Mhz (10x100fsb).

Should I go to a 400W PSU?

I do have 2 DVD applications installed (PowerDVD and WinDVD). I've uninstalled WinDVD since then. We'll see if it persists.

The Nvidia drivers installed is Det. v23.11 (from the Nvidia site). I also installed the 4.36v of the Via 4-in-1 drivers.

Thanks for the suggestions. If you have more suggestions that I should consider, I'd appreciate it.

Congrats, you have bad ram. Had same thing happening with my 2 sticks of 256 DDR samsung memory. Got random resets and trouble installing windows XP, took out one stick...all better now. It was bad ram. Try that first...could be the problem
