View Full Version : Spy with XP
Spy doesn't seem to be working right with Win XP has anybody got it to work without errors?
If so what are the settings
My understanding is that Mike hasn't made any updates for XP yet. It works for some, and not for others.
set compatability mode to windows 2000 and disable visual theams... thats what the seti spy site says and for me it has worked so far with few problems

right click on spy and go to properties in there u will find a tab that says compatability
using spy 3.0.7 and I dont see a tab for properties
no no no lol close out spy and right click on it then and go to properties then in the properties look for the compatibility tab
Also, I found it works, as long as you don't try to turn it on using a shortcut. If opened directly, I have had no problems. Opening through any shortcut, though, and it freaks. Not good if you want it in the startup folder. :eh?:

I'll try all of the above! I just upgraded OS, and cannot finish one WU! :(
still 100% success with opening the .exe directly. Note, if spy isn't working, the SETI driver and command line proggies still work. You won't have the cool interface, but you'll be crunching numbers still.

I figured it out...at least for my system
I have to wait for mcafee virusscan to autostart before I can run spy w/o initial error message
not sure if it applies to other programs autostarting b/c mcafee is the only one I have set to autostart

well, i dont' have any problem in WinXP at all.
all i did is set the compatible to Win2000, and turn off the visual effect. both u could find when right click SETISpy icon, and properties.
it's set into the startup folder too.
didn't have any problem w/ it!!
hope this could help...;)
MiteyJoe....its working pretty good so far except no 1/4 PCI divisor until 133 FSB and no boot at 133. Going to pull all cards and test/burn-in as high as possible. But voltage is currently at default
PS...their taking the board cost out of my check

how are your temps at 133? will it post? possiblility remains that 1463 could be a little too much of a stretch for that chip. =\ if it was an AMD *cough :D* i would say to drop the multiplier to 10.5 and that would get you 133FSB.. but.. hey.. ;) lol

HAHAHAHA thats classic.. :D
i guess your travelbucks couldnt quite cover the board huh? lol thats  (fukdup.)

Board wont boot at all....will just try a bit moe burning in first, but the Abit would boot at 133 either
He wouldn't use the travelbux for the board  but would you expect anything less

hmmm... any warning beeps? i know those boards work at 133 because ive used 133 chips on those boards before.
<edit> ..can you bring over your bx board sometime? i think mine is dead..=\ and i wanted to see if i could test that theorie. </edit>

hahah no. thats to be expected.
but more than likely his reasoning is that he cant get a discount on the board because its already purchased.. whereas if you were to get a plane ticket lets say.. he may be able to get a discount and therefore not have to use all of his money for your travelbucks.. comprende? :eh?:
at least thats the motivation i can gather from those actions.
Joe....Which board is dead and what chip is it?
I can come over tonight if you want...I'll just toss the board back in the old case with the hole in the top.
AND.....no warning beeps on either board...just wont boot up at all but thats quite a stretch for those chips without a proper burn-in and plenty of luck

nevermind.. i fixed it. lol..
thanks for the offer anyway though.. ended up that it was the CD rom doing some wierd stuff.. for some reason it was keeping the HDD light on and causing the boot to fail right after POST :eh?:
<edit> it wa the p2 board. slot1.</edit>
but we can still meet up later if you want to do something.. or we can play some UT. :D

yeah.. intels are hard to OC.. now that i think about it.. i had that problem with my P2. within the first year i had it, i had trouble getting it to go over 460.. but now it will do 533 with a slight (10%) increase in voltage. :D
