hi...i am trying to transfer my OS (win2k) and all the software to a new and faster drive...can i just copy everything?? i've heard of norton ghost...any other software i can use?? thanks
Ghost will work if it's formatted FAT32(think the corporate edition allows NTFS imaging). Can also use DriveImage.
I'm sure there a couple others out there if you do a search on Google (http://www.google.com) for drive imaging software.

Many of the HDD's come with a utility disk which help you format the new HDD and will clone all the information from the old to the new drive. If your new HDD is a Maxtor the utility is called MaxBlast plus found here ( http://www.maxtor.com/products/DiamondMax/techsupport/TechnicalProcedures/24023.html ). Last time I bought a new Western Digital drive it had a similar utility. found here ( http://ctweb01.wdc.com/datalifeguard/lifeguardextend.asp?destination=http://www.wdc.com/support/download/dlg/ezmaker.exe )
I hope this helps although I am not positive these specific programs work with W2K.

can you? yes. SHOULD you? no.......
any major upgrade (even upgrading a CPU) should get a new format. It's just not good practice.

Norton Ghost... Its a reliable way to copy an image of a drive to another... done it countless of times and got no bad experience whatsoever... saves you a lot of hassles....:)
