View Full Version : 8800 GTS GPU and RAM Timings, is a ratio better?

The card default settings were 500/800.

I'm pumping it up and running 3dmark06 for each step.

Is there any ratio between GPU and RAM speeds, in the same way theres a ratio between FSB and RAM?

Currently I'm creeping up the speeds at 1.5 RAM to 1x GPU, so I'm at 620/930 now.

Is this beneficial or am I imagining it?
Also, is there any benefit in fitting your PCIE speed with your bus. My bus is 460, so I set my PCIE at 115. Again am I just wishful thinking?

I currently have a 3dmark06 of 12154 @ 620/930

most ppl with A2 cores on their 8800gts's top out at a core speed round 621-648 (only 27mhz increments available) ...

as for a ram to gpu multi... naw clock both as high as you can go... ram usually tops out round 1000-1050mhz (2000-2100mhz effective)

A2? where do i find this?

Any ideas on the FSB-PCIE ratio relationship?
I'm aware we are told to fix at 100mhz while system testing, but is there a link?

just keep it locked at 100mhz... at 16x bandwidth there is no need to up the mhz for extra bandwidth, as your comming no where close to even 8x bandwidth.

as for knowing which core you have download rivatuner (if your not already using it)

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163

on the main page of rivatuner it will tell you under target adapter... see attached image

Is there a consensus on the A3 cores yet? I just checked in rivatuner and it says my evga 8800gts 640 has an A3. It clocks 675/1080 on stock air.

I checked, mines an A2

I have 2 A3 GTSs both with Zalman VF1000... I've been scared to overclock because I've got nothing to test with (ATI tool won't work for me). Maybe I'll just crank it up and look for artifacts in 3dMark or something.

do NOT use ati tool to check for artifacts... it has been said that it can cause damage to cards....

just use 3dmark...

as for the A3 cores, general concensus is they clock higher than the A2's

um, where?

ATITool is fine. 3dMark06 doesn't put enough stress on the card. Not to mention, eye-balling for artifacts is ridiculous.

gah there was a huge thread on it a while back (ati tools auto overclocking, kept over clocking and disregarded artifacts) i guess if your just using the 3dview but even then, id much rather just run 3dmark06 w/ some AA and af... that will stress your card good.

Well this is what I do. I use Rivatuner to set my clocks, but I use ATITool to scan for artifacts.

If I just use 3dMark06, then it'll complete fine and I'm able to achieve higher clocks, but after an hour of intense gaming, it'll freeze up sometimes.

3dMark06 just isn't an accurate load. ATITool using "Scan for Artificats" is. You really should give it a run for 10 minutes.

Googling "ATITool and Damage" returns absolutely nothing, FYI.

Do NOT use FindMaxCore/Mem in AtiTool

ya thats it... i honestly dont see how ati tools scan for artifacts is a heavier load then 3dmark... i get like 800FPS in ati tool.... maybe max of 70 fps in 3dmark... id say its working decently harder
