Windows XP enables Univeral Plug and Play (UPnP) by default. It's only useful if you have a bunch of internet enabled appliances at your house. This is also an issue if, for some reason, you installed UPnP on earlier Windows O/S releases. It is yet another buffer overflow vulnerability (I thought M$ said they got rid of all of those...). This is a pretty serious one, so be sure to install this.

Get it here:

I guess I shouldn't complain too much. I make a significant amount of money installing security (and bug fix) patches for Microsoft products in several offices.

It doesn't seem that this thread is getting many reads. This is an important patch for ALL users of Windows XP (any flavor). Either you are:

a) Running an earlier version of Windows and have not installed UPnP.
b) Already knew of the vulnerability and patched it.
c) Clueless.

Check out this link if you haven't already.

[That should keep 'em guessing for a little while:D]

I was just looking at a thread entitled "WinXP SUX" that has over 200 reads. And this thread, which could solve a lot of WinXP 'suckage' gets just 60 reads. Maybe I need to use more provocative headers.

I wouldn't expect a lot of POSTS to this thread, but it should get plenty of reads.

Anyway--BUMP
