I have a problem with my P5K Premium and a WD AAKS drive (known SATA issue). I've jumpered pins 5-6 to put the AAKS drive into SATA mode rather than its default SATAII mode and it hasn't cured the problem.

Have I jumpered this correctly because when I disconnect the drive all my problems go away?

Thanks in advance

Are you running in IDE mode, or AHCI mode? I've heard that IDE mode can cause issues.

Also, what BIOS are you running?

I'm running in IDE mode. ASUS emailed me BIOS 0301 and I'm using this now instead of 0402. I hadn't tried AHCI yet because I haven't had time to do a re-install of windows, nor do I have a FDD...

I have since been able to cure the problem (I left drive jumpered at pins 5-6) and changed SATA cable and moved it to one of the black SATA connectors...... so far so good. Still not happy about having had the problem in the first place although I admit this board is awesome nonetheless.

Yeah, the HDD problems can drive you nuts until you figure out a work-around. When you have a brand new rig you're anxious to tweak, and you can't even get an OS installed it can be very frustrating.

I had a heck of a hard time. 1st my P35-DS3R had a bad BIOS flash, and had to be returned, and then the P5K-Premium wouldn't let me get an OS installed after I set up the RAID0. Eventually I conceded to AHCI. Everything works fine now. I'll try Matrix RAID0/5 once I get the Seagates I want.
