here's the deal, a freind of mine is staying here for a few weeks, but we're having problems connecting his PC to my internet account. I have an ADSL connection, and both my PC's are connecting to it fine. All of them are run through a 10BASE-t hub. Now the funny thing, is that he can see the network, but his PC won't connect through my account. All the systems are running Win2K Pro. All the settings are identical to mine. We tried swapping NIC's, cables, different ports on the hub, leaving my two machines disconnected from the hub, and nothing. Anyone have any ideas? Something I may have missed, or forgotten to do? Just throw post anything no matter how simple or stupid it may seem, I've probably overlooked something really simple and can't remember what.

Make sure he has his network settings set up properly. Make sure the network protocols and bindings are all installed...TCP/IP, etc. Whatever you need.
Also, make sure he does not have a static ip address or dns gateway set in his comp that is not correct...
If he is on the network, but not the internet, it has to be something specific to that...
You may have to have a look at the router set up, make sure something isn't screwy there.
One more thing...he doesn't have his browser set up for a proxy server, does he?
Check his machine to see if he's got some kind of firewall installed on his machine that could be causing the blockage. That's my only guess.

If you actually meant hub and you do not have a dhcp server in front of the hub then you friends computer is not receiving an IP address.
You said all the settings are the same, but my best guess would be gateway and DNS server addresses.???
Have you tried pinging an ip that the other pcs can connect to?
If you're using a hub, that means that you're not sharing an IP address between the two original PCs - unless the hub is hanging off a router or you're using ICS. If each of the original PCs are getting an IP address assigned (rather than a static address), it's probably because your ISP is using something like machine name to assign it. If that's true then you need to make sure that the 3rd PC changes his machine name to match one of the other two...which in turn means that one of the original two will not work while the 3rd is on.
Now if you're using Internet Connection Sharing with the original two PCs, then we're into a different discussion.

I'm not connecting through a router. That's done server side. It's weird how the Bell DSL works up here. Each machine gets assigned an IP when you connect to their server. I don't use ICS, he may have installed or not installed something that may be preventing it from connecting. Thanks for all teh suggestions, I'll see if they work.
