I just went to Cyber Deals section to make this thread, lol.

I've already used GCO, so I was gonna post this then ask if it's something I should hop on for $78.49 AR. I currently have an OCZ 600W that doesn't seem to drop on the 12v line when I game, but ever since I upgraded from my x1800xt 512 to my 8800gtx, one of my games gets EXTREMELY choppy every 20-30min... it'll get choppy for like 15-20 seconds and then it goes away. My ping also shoots up to 600ms+, so I've NO CLUE what this is about. The funny thing is both of my bros would be playing CS with me at the same time and this does NOT happen to them, so I can't blame my ISP.

I'm guessing it's the PSU b/c it did this on my previous mobo too... only the 8800gtx, not the x1800xt i used to have... =/

Always always always go for the budget shipping. It is actually the 3 day select/ups ground. I think they just say 7-9 days because they put your order to the back of their priority list if thing's get busy.

I have always got my orders in 3-4 business days.

i'm ****ed. i couldn't remember my damn CVV code to my buy.com visa CC. i have no reason to carry it in my wallet as I only use it for buy.com purchases, so i had to settle with a diff card. oh well, i won't get the 3% cash back, but i guess that's only $3 anyway, so i'll live. :)

i just realized this morning that this was the HX and not the other one i had seen for around this price a couple weeks ago. damn... the HX model for this price is a steal!! i'm gonna try for the magazine rebate (even though i just sent one in today for a diff order), but even @ ~$80 AR it's a great deal! :)

i am not sure if the culprit of my system is the OCZ 600W SLI psu I got, but i'm still getting problems when gaming!! for some reason when i'm playing CS (yes, the crappiest grafix ever, not to mention on my 8800gtx), every 10min or so, i get EXTREMELY choppy for a good 10-15 seconds and then back to normal. i've NO CLUE what's causing it. :( i hope this new PSU is the fix, but for some reason i highly doubt it. i've had this problem ever since i installed the 8800gtx. go figure.

the funny thing is i'm getting this problem in regular CS maps (which i'm playing through Condition Zero CS)... so it's crappy grafix... it's not like my damn 8800gtx can't handle it, lol.

when i play bioshock i don't think i get this problem, though, so who knows what the heck the problem is. i got the same problem on my previous p35 board (gigabyte), and this all started when i got my 8800gtx. i can't blame the card either as it seems to work fine for bioshock from what i've gathered.

if you're getting an 8800gts, you should try bioshock... it's beautiful, except i wish the water splashes looked better. the water looks GREAT, and waterfalls and walking through it is awesome, but when a drop hits the water, the splash looks cheesy and pixely (at least to my eyes). enjoy your 8800!!

Well I heard that Nvidia has some kind of driver issues with the Counter strike, but not sure if that is correct. Its gotta be the game then if bioshock works ok because an 8800gtx is a kickass card!!! :D

i dont' think u can do that anymore... i had tried creating more accounts and they kept rejecting...
i believe that they have a system that detects repeaters... not to burst your bubble, but don't be surprised if you get a cancellation notice. do yourself a favor and periodically check that new email (or existing, whichever) that you used to do GCO with this purchase. i didn't know one of my orders were canceled until over a week later when i hadn't received the item, and was like let me check the email.... i noticed it never went through and was auto- rejected

last time i tried was maybe a month ago. i don't bother anymore as i tried a couple trix that stopped working. i was able to get them to go through after the first time the canceled me... what i'd do is put "Apt. i don't bother anymore b/c i feel guilty trying it again... google's good to me.

That's strange. I have bought my Corsair VX450 and some RAM in the past month using the same address and they both got to me ok.
Googles been good to me too, but I guess I figure an extra $10 helps a poor college student afford more :) If I wasn't a student I would probably just order elsewhere and not worry about the extra $10 off.

Good... I'm excited I ordered it, then. :) I really think my OCZ 600W was holding up well, though, but hey I'm sure I can get decent cash for that and the upgrade wouldn't be costing me much after all.

who the heck knows.... i still don't think my PSU is the culprit in my problem with the FPS drops... i almost wanna go back to ATI b/c of this problem, but i love the card too much for other games. :( but of all my gaming i play CS or CZ (counter-strike w/better textures) about 80%!!! I don't really play CS: Source, so i hope you guys don't think i was talking about that CS (though yes it's much sexier, but game-play is diff).

:( i may just get this HX520 and store it in my closet... i may not even use it... we'll see... but I'm gonna ask around to see if it's BETTER than my OCZ 600W... i really haven't seen anything wrong with it... even when I test with a DMM the +12v is typically 12.27v, and drops to 12.26v.... lol only 0.01v drop from FULL 3dmark load, or even orthos/prime/superpi.

with that said, if there is no real voltage drop, could you blame a PSU @ all?

got my psu in already... i've no idea if i should rip it out and replace my ocz 600w... maybe i don't need to... i'm gonna guess that it'll take me 2-3 hours... don't laugh, i'm serious, especially with the wire management in my case that i have to customize, and also dealing with my water tubing.

as for the magazine rebate, i filled one out already earlier this week. i just read the fine print and it says, "limit one per person"... that's all it says, so i'm assuming that means limit one no matter what address you use the 2nd time? or should i take a chance and have rebate sent to a diff address... i don't mind TRYING, but i don't want to lose out on my 1st $10 rebate also.

Two caveats with this deal: (1) Buy.com sucks big time; (2) Corsair pays its MIRs slowly.

Why does Buy.com suck? They are the ONLY vendor in which I got screwed for a MIR (in the Connect3D USB stick debacle).

Also, I bought a HX620 with a MIR and it took approximately 3 months to get the MIR back. You are warned...

If it matters, I love my HX620. It is as advertised: rock solid.

damn... so maybe i shouldn't replace my ocz 600w with this 520w corsair... i have 3 320gb hard drives, and may be going back to 2x74gb raptors with a 250gb storage...

and i got an 8800gtx...

the rails seem the same... the only diff between the 520 and 620 that i've noticed is that the 620 has a slightly better 5v rail...

Warren G
11-02-07, 11:40 AM
im sure it can handle your system. very efficient psu from johnnygurus review. btw, my blue storm has actually power of 420w instead of the 500w advertised, and using the psu calculator my system draws about ~480w 90% load.

Yeah the 520hx can handle a lot. I think that people think they need the 620 but in reality its just a waste...

Good deal though,

the differences i see in putting the specs side by side is this (higher amperage rating is for the 620w version vs the 520w):

Input Current (10A vs 9A):
10A @ 90 V AC to 264 V AC - Input Current
9A @ 90 V AC to 264 V AC - Input Current

Output Current 5A rail (30A vs 24A):
30A @ 5V DC - Output Current
24A @ 5V DC - Output Current

So like I said before, I guess the 620W can handle more peripherals like hard drives and whatnot? I am only gonna run 3 hard drives total, 2 optical, and fans and whatnot...:confused:

Ok finally finished installing the new psu..something that sucked:

one of my modular cables (sata powers) got fubared when I tried to plug it into my backplane. The little pins inside the sata power cable was pushed up/back so yea....now im one modular sata cable short...does anyone know if any modular power cable will work or is it brand specific? that was the only thing that made me unhappy about the psu, but im getting a little happier :)..using my kill-a-watt, computer shutoff/standby drains 6w, booting takes 170-180w, idle at windows vista 165w...havent done a load test yet...

System in sig, including 1 extra 80gig sata, 250gb ide, dvdrw, usb multicard reader, bluetooth usb keyboard, 4 case fans, and 1 hsf.

what's the advantage of the 620... it handles more peripherals??

that 100watts extra I would guess may play a big part in stability with a 4x4 right at 3ghz....

I agree I also only run 2 optical and 2 hard drives with 1 pci-e card not sli but I come from where you needed to make sure your rails can handle what they have one them :D

petteyg359

HX620W has more watts (same amps). It also includes a couple more cables than the HX520W (1 extra molex and one extra SATA, I think). It says what they include on the Corsair site.

jonspd: The rails on the Corsairs act as a single rail as far as anything I've read says. I guess having three regulators or whatever on the "single" rail makes it more reliable?
