View Full Version : Is this real DDR 333?

I purchased 2 sticks of Kingmax DDR 333 from MemorySuppliers. I was afraid that memory prices might go up, so I went ahead and bought it for a new PC I plan to build next month. Thus, I have no way to test it right now as I have not bought the motherboard yet. MemorySuppliers has a 30 day return policy and lifetime warranty. The 256 MB DIMM has 8 chips on each side labeled KDL684T4A2A -07A. Are these 5 ns and true DDR 333?
Thanks.
That's on the chips or the kingmax sticker?
I am almost positive mine have -5 at the end of the letters-numbers on the chips.
I will look later and let you know for sure.

The sticker says PC2700. The chips have the number I mentioned screened on them.
Thanks for checking.
My chips have Kingmax printed on them and the end says -05.
Check on the kingmax site and see if you can find a match.
Somethings not right.

Thanks Placid,
I can't find the specs for these chips anywhere on the Kingmax site.

I pulled a stick out so I could get the full information.
The sticker is marked:
MPMB62D-68KX3
DDR-333 256 CL 2.5
The Chips are marked:
Kingmax
KDL684T4A2A
-05
Hope this helps.

Thanks again Placid,
I e-mailed MemorySuppliers and they asked for the chip #s. I suspect these are 7ns chips. I told them I need 5 ns. I'll see what happens and post my finding.
I appreciate you help.

If you have SiSoft Sandra, KingMax memory will look like this.

Kingmax has PC2700 333 DDR ram at 5ns every other bran I have seen is at 6ns.
So the answer is yes Kingax does have 5ns ram.
There are 2 different Knigmax 333 chips with the same part #. One has -07a chips and one has -05 chips. I can only assume that the 5 are 5ns and the 7a is 7.5 overclocked. I have the pdf on the 7a's from kingmax (it wasn't on their website) and it says 7.5ns. I don't have one for the 05 ones, but some vendors have the o5 ones marked 333 and some 07a marked 333. I have seen at least one review for the kingmax 5ns modules that was pretty good.

Thanks,
I couldn't find the -07A spec on Kingmax's site, but I suspected them to be 7 or so ns. MemorySuppliers told me to return and they would replace with 5 ns chips. They said they would special order them for me, and so far, they have not indicated they will charge me any extra. I'll post after I recieve and indicate the chip type.

Hmm.... that store is really sneeky, tryin to sell you 7ns chips with a DDR333 sticker on it.... I've heard of KingMax DDR333 dimms with 6ns chips, but not 7. DDR300 is suppose to have 6ns chips, and 5ns for DDR333

Sounds like you may have picked the right outfit to buy from, if it really was an honest mistake. I bought mine from Kommax, and I've sent them an email. Hope they respond as your vendor did to you! I feel as though I've been violated.
I looked on pricewatch Taylor and it clearly say's 5ns kingmax 2700 ddr for kommax as well as on their website.
I would take a screen shot of both and send it to them if I were you.
That's false advertisement.

I called komax and had him go to the warehouse and read the # on the chip to me. It was -05 so I made sure that he sent those parts and not any 07a's. I beleive that the first batch of kingmax333's were overclocked hand picked 7.5 ns chips and now they may have updgraded to the 5's but I am going to talk to their engineer on Monday and find out for sure. It soes however, seem a bit shady!
I just received the Komax order an they are 05's.
the ctspd reports for the kingmax -05's = 6ns not 5.
I noticed that awhile ago.
I figured either ctspd can't do 5ns or since the memory is produced and spd as 2700 that the 6ns reading is normal.
If it read more than 6 in ctspd I would be concerned.
I wonder what the -07a parts would read in CTSPD. Anyone have one to test?

hard ocp`s website states that 333 ddr is useless unless
you overclock your cpu and motherboard to 166 mhz fsb
if you don`t then ddr333 will only work 266 mhz speed

Thanks Placid. Mine looks exactly like the picture in the thread you linked: 07A. I think I'm going to keep a jar of KY jelly by my computer from now on, since so many online vendors seem to prefer anal sex to providing honest services! I just wish they'd kiss me first...
I went to the PC Club down the street from me here in SD, and they have the 07a modules as well. Something's not right. I haven't got a response from Kommax yet.
Taylor if you have your kingmax installed can you run ctspd and see what ns it show's for the timing data-cas latency.
If you don't have ctspd you can get it here:

I'm not going to install it- I'm not touching it except to send it back. If I wanted 7.5 ns ram I'd have bought hot 2100 or something, anything, but no way I'm settling for what they sent me.
I am going to go get ctspd, tho. Thanks for the link.
The pdf on the 07a's that a Kingmax salesman sent me clearly states SPD is 7.5ns and cas 2.5. I am not sure what the actual difference is between the -05 and 07a parts. The -05 parts seem to run pretty stable so far.

My Kingmax DDR333 arrived at the office in Buffalo from Kommax just now.
I had John check the chips and they are -05's, PHEW!
Taylor, I'd have to say it was probably a mistake that you got -07a's
Have you heard anything on the replacement yet?
I have a stick of PC2100 Kingston "Value Ram" with Nanya NT5DS16MA18-7K chips on it. I had ordered some OCZ PC2700 a week and a half ago from Hardcorecooling.com, but haven't heard a peep from them. If that ever arrives it will allow me to run benchmarks for the three using the PC2100 as a baseline. With all the bad press OCZ has been getting around here, I'm not going to be too unhappy if they blow me off as long as they don't charge me for it.
The KR7A-R mobo should be here any minute. Gonna be busy for the next few days.

I just got off the phone with an engineer at Kingmax. He was under the impression that the original 2700 spec had an 05 part # on it not 07a. He seemed a little bewildered that their was a 07a part out there. He said he would get the specs on both chip rev's and call me back later. If he does, I'll post back.
I got no response to my email; This afternoon I called and got transferred to RMA. The guy said to send it back with my invoice, and "if it's our mistake, we'll make it right."
So tomorrow I'm sending it back along with a copy of the invoice and this:
Monday, January 7th, 2002 6:00 PM
To: Kommax RMA Dept.
RMA #2255

Re: RMA #2255
Dear Sir or Madame,
As per our phone conversation, which took place on
01/07/02 at approximately 5:45 PM, I have enclosed the part,
which you sent me in error, and a copy of the email
confirmation you sent after I placed the order.
I am returning this part, because the part I ordered is
Kingmax PC 2700 -5ns ddr ram.
What you sent me is -7.5ns ddr ram.
I expect you to send to me the proper part, and reimburse me
for the expense of shipping back to you the part you sent in
error, which, for the sake of expediting this transaction, will
be the same as the original shipping cost of $9.19. (I will
probably pay more than that amount, because I will ship it
"overnight", but I will accept the $9.19 as full payment.)
Alternatively, I will waive my right to reimbursement of the
return shipping charges, if you in turn will sell me another
of these -5ns modules for the same price of $77.00. In that
event, I would authorize you to charge my Visa the amount of
$83.16, expecting that the cost of shipping two modules is no
greater than having just one in the box.
If you are willing to do this, please call me for whatever
authorization you need to complete the order.
If you do not have the part I ordered available, I expect
you to refund to me the entire amount of my purchase, tax,
shipping and handling, and the return shipping of the part you
sent erroneously, which totals $101.54.
As long as you agree to any of the several above-mentioned
options, and act in a timely manner, I will continue to do
business with you in the future, and will provide a favorable
rating with Yahoo.
I would also request that you call me, as soon as possible,
at my cell phone number, xxx-xxx-xxxx, and confirm this
transaction.
Sincerely,
Re: the .07a and .05 Kingmax DDR333 chip part #'s...
This e-mail from Kingmax:
From: "James Liu" JamesL@kingmax.com
"It was miss marked the -07a on the PC2700 DDR333 256MB SDRAM. From now on, It won't happen again.
In the future only -05 marked chip will be given to customers."
Interesting, I wish someone would run CTSPD on the 07a's so I could compare it to the 05's.
I'm about to purchase some for a new MoBo & I warned the shop that they should be 5ns chips. Will see what happens on friday.
I just talked to the Kommax rma dept. and they said they sent me the new ram today, and credited my account back the shipping cost for me to return the 7a stuff. We'll see, should be here friday.
Ok, I'm still a little confused. Was the Kingmax guy saying that the ones marked with -07a were just a mistake in that the were truly just mis-marked and that they are the same as the -05 one? In other words. are the -07a chips 5ns or not?
I just received my RAM from AccessMicro and it is marked with -07a.

I read this from another guy in a forum who contacted a Kingmax engineer and from my understanding when Kingmax first started producing PC2700 Ram, they used overclocked 7.5ns chips. Now, they have switched over to the true 5ns chips. However, there are still some of the older 7.5ns models floating around, and apparently some retailers are trying to sneak their remaining supply of them in with the other 5ns Ram that they sell. I've just ordered some from Kommax and when I ordered I specifically requested that they double check that they send me the 5ns and not the 7.5, hopefully that'll help.
I quite nicely explained to AccessMicro about why I thought they had sent me the wrong RAM. Within 12 hours they issued an RMA with all shipping paid for by them. Sure hope this works out...

I just received an email from Kommax saying that I was indeed shipped the 5ns RAM. So I'm relieved. Now I just have to wait on that 2-day air shipping :(
This is good. Tuesday I sent the 7a module back, usps overnight. They got it Wed. and shipped the -5ns module back out the same day, and credited my card back the shipping charges. A minute ago I got the package, and it is indeed the -5ns stuff.
So I'm happy with Kommax and plan to buy from them again. Later I'll fill out the Yahoo storefront rating page they sent me, and give Kommax a favorable rating.
Their price for this Kingmax 256Mb pc2700 module is now $93, down from last week's $95, but up from the $77 I paid on Dec. 26th.

Taylor,
Glad you got the right stuff. After you posted that you had received the -07A I had been worried that was what I would get. Fortunately they had sent a -05!
I'm considering purchasing another stick from Kommax, it runs at 200FSB for me with the prime torture test just looping away.
Enjoy,
Henry
How much voltage are you using Boilerhead?
I suspect that the Kingmax marked -07a is actually 7.5 ns stock, but unless someone runs CTSPD, we will not know. At least CTSPD shows the -05 part as 6ns. (Not 5ns but at least not 7.5ns)
The shop gets the shipment of Kingmax & they are not the 5ns chips:mad: Now I'm goona have to find an online vendor & hope thy send me the right ones.

I'm at max stock voltages for the KR7A, I don't recall exactly what the DDR is atm, 2.65v I think.
Of course it's at CAS 2.5 w/200 FSb, but I can run CAS 2 at the same clockspeed with 8.5x188, but performance in 2k1 3dmark is slightly worse. Sandra Mem Bench is somewhat higher @ 953/1199MB/s. That's set at 3-6-3, haven't moved further with those yet as I wanted to get a feel for the stability, maybe later today.
Henry
I ordered 2 more sticks from Kommax this morning.
Wish I'd bought more when it was only $77 like the first one I got, (Today it was $99) but I bet it gets worse.
In the "comments" field I asked them to make sure to check that they send me the -5's, and reminded them of the rma on my last order.
Hopefully they get it right. I think they will. I'll for sure let you all know when it gets here.
