cd roms don't have drivers. It's possible you lost the controller, but installing drivers wouldn't have any effect.

Have you tried removing the controller and rebooting?

Don't format.

Shut off your computer.

See if you have spare IDE cables plug it in and make sure the power is in and then try it.

It could be faulty IDE cables, or something or power is not in.

couple simple things i have seen work in sit like yours

u might have tried these, might not work but

unplug the ide cable, boot up run, add remove new hardware and let win search for new hardware. it may detect what was there and offer you the option to remove them, do it if found. then if removed or not shut down, reset your cable, cdr's and reboot and see what u got

also try changing the master slave setup make (e) ( f ) and what was (f ) (e)

also try making both jumpers to CS and see what u get, all these things could "trick" win into seeing and reconfiguring your devices, but as u know sometimes the only cure is the fdisk one, good luck

the only think i have yet to try now is changin the jumpers... then the dreaded fdisk... but thank goodness i just got a 40gig so i can move all my "stuff" to that one....
