don't know when they are coming out but you can preorder now!
700 is probably a lot higher than what they will cost after a month so I would wait. 450 is better price for this chip.
damn, that's a lot of money. The benchies haven't shown any new dominance or anything, so I think the hype doesn't justify the price at them moment.

not only will the price come down but later steppings will overclock better so i would not advise buying now.
Yeah I think I paid 700 entire computer! I am not saying to buy one but they must be coming out very soon if you can pre-order. any OEMs selling them yet?

$700?
As cool as the Northwoods probably are, $700 is just a joke.
LOL 700 is a joke and with money like that we all can build something that will come close to the performance ie: XP 2000+

I was told by a distributer that these chips actaully cost about $560 is you puchase 1000 units. You may find companies reselling these chips close to $600 instead! I know of someone who was supplied with a 2.2 ghz northwood and he claims he overclocked this chip to 2.9 ghz easily. I asked him to sign up to this forum and post his benchmarks. He says after the launch date around Jan. 7th he'll post his scores at Madonion.com for all the see to which he claims he'll hold the #1 spot. TC here at overclockers.com seems to get the newest chips to check out before the release dates and i wonder if he had a chance to check one out yet.
By the way price / performance is not an issue to some of us here. I simply buy what i want to be either different from the majority of the pack or to be the first kid on the block to have the latest new toy.
How does TC get the new chips?
Overclock to 2.9gig easy? whoa thats like a 50% overclock really easily.
Although people will not spend that much money until these thing drop.

22 x 133 = 2926 = 2.9
133 fsb = 33% increase
I've personally had my socket 423 1.7 @ 1955 with stock cooling but not stable. There are others here that have had good luck with socket 478 versions at over 2100+ which is right around 25%+!
50% would be nice overclock getting around 4.3ghz

LOL Sorry I'm more of an "oldie" because I forgot those P4 had such high multipliers so I'm living in the past :)

Hey by the way i noticed you are using a celeron and did you know the 1.4 celerons will be out early next year? I guess when the 1.3 celerons are released they will around $100. They should be able to overclock to 2.0 i would think!

Yup I know that.
The 1.3 should overclock well to 1700-1800 maybe.
Since the 1.2 overclock to 1.5-1.6
They are very cheap also and I love when they overclock they match to the Athlon XP.

You should read some of Ol'Mans and the other people with Tualatin's post. They're so amazing and how they experiment and how it compares.

I believe he works in the tech sector and gets chips and hardware to test his products with. If that is wrong then maybe he works for Intel cuz those guys have to have them by now.

They've got the cheap ram chipset out, socket 478 is out, no benchmarks (except we know that sdram will cancel any gains), and a chip more expensive almost than a Dell P4 "special" computer system. Power users they're after YOU! The guys who are addicted and for whom money is no object. Don't fall for it. I just ordered an Athlon 1800+, Abit KG7R motherboard, and 256MB of Corsair PC2400 ddr sdram from Googlegear for a total of $525.00 including Fed Ex 2-day shipping. There's no doubt in my mind that I'll be able to OC that setup to 2.2 like PR.
