Hi there,

I'm putting together my stem for the first time. I have ...

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard and

2x - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drives.

The two SATA cabes are plugged into the SATA 10 and SATA 11 spots on the motherboard, not the purple GSATA ports.

I went in to BIOS and set ...

Integrated Peripherals
- SATA RAID/AHCI More = RAID
- Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode = RAID/IDE

Then I did the Ctrl-I setup for raid and created my Vol0_Raid0 and Vol1_Raid1 just as pictured in attachment RaidScreen.jpg, except my sizes are different, 80gb and 192gb.

I got the driver floppy creation tool off the Intel site here ... Link (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=13808&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng)

I created the floppy and proceeded with the bootup. Windows install asked for the F6 to load drivers, I hit F6, driver (just one ... iastore.sys I think) loaded.

When I hit <enter> to begin setup, windows complained it could not find a hard drive. :(

If I undo everything and just stick with plain IDE or such, windows sees the drives during install.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm sitting here looking at my new PC wondering if the Matrix raid is even worth the hassle to setup.

Thanks,

-Duc

Same results. :(

I'm big time bummed.

I AM SUCH A DILL-HOLE !!

Talk about missing the fripp'n obious here, ugh !!

So I'm following the instructions here ... LINK (http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1735335,00.asp)

Not even noticing that it's for ... "Setting up Intel's Matrix RAID for the ICH6R"

So of course when the instructions say load some 82801 SATA/HEM driver off the floppy and I of course BLINDLY do just that. I didn't even notice the last option for ICH8R/ICH9R SATA Raid .... UGH !

You nailed it with "is that the right driver for the raid?".

Call me newb. :) Now on to the next problems, whatever they might be, hehehe ....

Ok,

so everything is wokring just fine. The RAID0 tach's at 205mb and 1500mb which is on queue with other reports. the same with the RAID1 which is slower but that's expected.

So ... RAID0 is 79gb and appears as C:

Where is my other 192gb of space? Aren't each considered a partition somewhat and get their own drive letter?

I need to somehow get the other 192gb of the RAID1 to become D: or such.

But for now, I'm gonna find a pillow ...

Thx,

RAID1 is mirroring, so you have 192GB on each drive that have identical data, and the O/S can only see 192GB. If one drive fails you'll be able to recover the data, but you lose the extra space.

Ture. I understand how the raid works in that aspect. But you said the O/S see's 192gb but how can I see that in Windows Explorer?

I see the Floppy A:, C: at 79gb (RAID0) then D: is my DVD and that's it. I cant see anything usable with the 192gb.

So how do I get to the point where I can copy files to the 196gb part? It's almost like it needs to be formatted/partition or something.

TIA,

1st change your DVD to E: or else other than D:, actually this is not utterly important, but "normally" hard drives sorted adjacently from C: D: and so on and then optical drive.

Open Disk Management and see if there is a unnamed drive there, ..or..

Post the screen shot of your OS Disk Management screen here. :D

Edit :

Example of mine HERE (http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php?p=4594995&postcount=23)

Yup, just got done doing that, I did Start -> Run -> compmgmt.msc and basically did the same stuff you laid out here. It's formatting as we speak.

Hello D: !

Now I get to do the physical stuff, unload the rack, manage my cables, get things nice and nifty. One of these days I'll be able to start playing WoW again, hehe.

Thanks all.

LOL! I thought you were searching for the 192GB you lost w/ the RAID1. I didn't realize you couldn't see any of it. Oh well, glad you got it worked out.
