I suspect your O/C is too high - 68C is that at idle, or while running 100%?

It's *possible* that your several WU's were all bad, but the chances of 2 different 2653's being bad in succession, is very slim.

Stability is a relative thing, and stable with SMP is naturally harder to get, than stability while using each core, individually.

Because your single core client runs fine, I don't believe it is a hardware failure of your RAM or HD; also, the core's always came through with valid sig's.

Try it with standard speeds, and see if it runs smp OK. If so, then you can test it until you reach the new "speed sweet spot", suitable for SMP folding.

P.S. If you haven't cleaned out the dust bunnies in a while, that would be a good thing to look at - your current temps may be higher than you suspect.

So we'll look for things besides instability issues, for now.

#1 IMO, would now be this:

You've installed the client in one directory, but it is listed in your registry as being installed in another directory.

So the client is unable to find the work directory and or WU (until it finally creates a new work directory and gets a new WU).

OR, you are running one client (or part of one client), but also are running another one (or part of one), in another directory.

OR, you're running one client as a service install, but also running another client as a program in the foreground.

Things to check:

1) Task Manager - see just what SMP related processes are running

2) Control Panel-->Administration-->Services, and see what is installed or running in your services section

3) Start-->Run-->Regedit. Edit tab-->Search-->fah.

If you write down the directory it SHOULD be in, you can easily see if it's listed properly in your registry. It's a PITA (and you do have to be careful using regedit!!), but work through it. (F3 is the "repeat search" key, iirc).

If you're starting SMP from a short-cut, check that the target line is specifying the correct directory.

Yes, that's the problem, I believe. Unfortunately, my only Windows smp folder is currently crunching SETI, so I can't be positive.

You should have just one smpd.exe program running with 4 threads for the core. The smpd associated with the system, is the one you want to stop.

I'd like to have this confirmed by someone with a Windows smp that's running, though.

BSODs are unrelated to FAH. They do signify a stability problem.

They only occur when fah is running, chkdsk pulled up a couple of errors though, gonna rerun fah after its fixed and rebooted. Maybe that was it.
