I tried cleaning my stock AMD HS and using some AS compound. The 1.33G tbird gets warm but doesn't boot. (The board is good as my Duron runs fine on it.) Pulling off the HS I noticed the AS was pretty smeared on the cpu, and I'm wonding if it could have shorted it out? AS seems pretty hard to get off - tried alchohol and ammonia but it just keeps smearing???

I hope you did not do a messy job and get it on the bridges of those Duron because that is not ASII fault really :/

Alcohol will get it off just that you have to get alot of lint-free cloth and then put corner of the cloth in the top of the bottle dump it over and back and then rub with a little pressure as soon as it gets off switch spots on the cloth.

Yes, guess I used too much and some did smear on the bridges. . . but its not ASII, just the original AS I got from ColdCpu.com about a year ago . . . I didn't think it was conductive, but if it has real silver in it seems it would be?:(

Even though its not conductive, if it gets in between those things it can link them together and short circuit it.

Arctic Silver is slightly capacitve and can cause malfunctions if smeared on the bridges. It is not conductive and won't kill your CPU. Alcohol will not get it off the ceramic. Use Goof Off (xylene) or dishwashing liquid and water.

Although it can damage it pretty bad. Happened to my video card when I went berserk and rushed it and blade fell on the memory I think and I got it between those things..

There goes it .

Clean it off the best you can... I hate how messy that stuff is...

[H]ard OCP did a great review, and I like the thicker stuff that comes in a jar...

Yea I've seen that Type 44 review same as ASII but lot more thicker and easier to spread etc.

Although too bad it wasn't notorious I can't find it anywhere here in Ottawa since ASII is very notorious as well as silicone thermal grease itself.
