For owners of Socket 939 Athlon 64's and those with Pentium M cpu's like myself, this might be worth considering. Not sure if it would be worth it with a P4. Will be interesting to see some benchmarks later on.

Sept. 4th? Kind of old...

I don't see them mentioning the 8800GT specifically; I'm pretty sure we already knew NV and AMD both had plans to do "low end" AGP DX10 parts for the masses. While it would be nice to see a full 8800GT on the AGP bus, I doubt they'll go for it.
Take note: I currently don't own a PCI-E system, so my only current upgrade path is either a card better than my Gainward Bliss 7800GS+ (the first full-G71, 24-pipe 512mb AGP card ever built) -- which essentially doesn't exist -- or to upgrade my entire system from the ground up.
It would be cheaper to upgrade just the video, but I'm really only extending the inevitable. Still, there's not much I can't throw at my rig in it's current state... The only thing I still really want is native 1680x1050 rez in all my games in combination with some AA; most games can do this, but the newest of the new stuff really can't.
I guess what I'm saying is, I'd be one of the first people in line to buy a full 8800GT-on-AGP if it came out. I just don't have any delusions of that EVER being an option :(

Seems like any CPU that would still be in an AGP board would be a severe bottleneck to an 8800 GT. I could see them releasing something along the lines of the 8600's in AGP but 8800 GT I doubt it.

Hmmm, I should have looked at the date before I posted this, anyway, I would need to see some benchmarks proving it was worthwhile to even bother. And even then I would still only have 1 gig of ram. Don't really care about Vista at the moment so 1 gig would manage ok with WinXP.
Up until the recent releases of more demanding games my 7800gs was having no probs at all, btw Crysis demo does 10-30fps on medium at 1024x768 res, quite playable but still about 30fps away from the intended experience.
The plan is to upgrade just before the middle of 2008, as hopefully by then DX10 video cards should be able to manage the DX10 games better than they currently can. The Pentium M cpu I currently use is massively more powerful for games as far as fps go than the P4 2.6c I had previously in the mobo, hence the possibility of a 8800gt agp upgrade, probably just a dream though.

I don't think you need too many benchmarks to figure out that even a P4 rig could benefit from an 8800GT.
Think about this: If you've got a 20" or bigger LCD, and you want at least 4xAA in every title you own (think: HDR + AA for new games) then how are you going to knock that out with a 7950GT at a min resolution of 1680x1050?
I want to play STALKER at full rez with AA and AF maxxed. I can't do that, and I've got arguably one of the fastest AGP cards in existance. Framerates are fantastic at 0xAA and 16xAF at full rez with all the other settings at full -- but as soon as I inch up on the AA, my frames go in the toilet.
FEAR does the same thing. It's not hard to make a 7900-series card sweat, especially if you're playing at native rez on an LCD and want some extra AA.
