View Full Version : what kind of inline pump to get
I just managed to order my stuff from DD but the guy said the only EHEIMs they had were the 1060s. I need a pump soon and I wanted to know what I should get. There is only one condition, it can't be reservoir it has to be inline, although it can be a hybrid, either or in the same pump.

I don't know much about water cooling but whats is "inline pump."
I know what a reservoir pump is, basically a pump, pumping from a reservoir(water holder.)
An inline pump is simply a put that you don't need a reservoir to use. You connect the input and the ouput and it makes a closed loop.

Eheim are nice pump but are very expensive. If you got the cash, go buy one. I myself just got a Maxi jet 1200. It is rated at 295 gph at 69"(5'9"). Got is for $22 from petsmart.com. It is very small and it can be in-line or in water. I made a post earlier about it today.

Pump costs are often an issue in watercooling systems. Why simply buy a 30 USD pump when you can spend 70 - 90 USD and buy a quality Ehiem pump?
When i compared the RIO 800 model (submersible, non-inline, 1/2" outlet) against the Ehiem 1250 model (inline/submersible, 1/2" outlet) i found the Ehiem to be of superior quality. Put simply, the Ehiem is totally silent, pumps above its rated amount, comes with a life time warranty, and is simply the best quality pump to buy. The only thing i found wrong with it was, its bulky, even so, its offset by the features outlined above.
Another thing to consider is that in a watercooling system, you will spend perhaps 100 - 250 USD. The most important part of the system is the pump, even the waterblock is behind this. If your pump fails, your screwed. If you have an excess amount of money for your system, its better to lash out here, rather then buy a waterblock (which it's mounting system might change, or the waterblock might become superceded/obsolete).
Cheers
I was originally going to get an eheim but unfortunately, there is nowhere near me in the city that I can get it. I'll in Canada, and no one carries it where I live. I would need to get it on a short order basis since I will be assembling my system within a week a so. I would love to get an eheim pump but the problem is if I order from the states, the shipping and exchange rates kill me. If someone know where I can get an eheim in canada that's not to expensive even with shipping, please tell me. Otherwise, I'll probably have to go with an inline mag-drive pump.

Bravo,
I understand what you are getting at, "what you paid is what you get." But as I stated before "If you got the cash, go buy one."(Eheim) I myself is a college student so I have limited funds. Did I mention the Maxi-jet is about 2.75 x 2.0 x 1.75, hence is great for smaller cases. Also the Maxi-jet is made in Italy, not in Taiwan or China like the Rio. Lastly for 1/3 the price of a Eheim, I can always buy an extra one just incase.
Peace:)
I to like you am a student, except in high school and I also have limited funds. However, if u know where I can order an Eheim pump in Canada from, I would probably do that.

Both my Danner (petsmart 500 gph and 250 gph) work fine and unlike Eheim replacement parts are available locally. My eheim broke its magnet while running and a new impeller magnet is not available locally. Stores say eheim won't ship prior to payment in full for the stuff so they plain do not stock them. Parts can of course be ordered.
