View Full Version : best northwood upgrade?

finally decided to upgrade my buddy's pc, its currently got a 2.7ghz celly nw 100fsb and 256mb of ram ddr 2700, i know i can upgrade to a gig, just wondeirng if there might be any limitation to cpu speed or if it'll run fine as long as its a northwood 100fsb?

yay..takes 533 fsb chips too and upto 2gb gb of ram

Make sure that is the board in there. Update the bios as well to make sure whatever chip you find is supported properly.

i'd consider getting a whole new platform.

celly-l 420
G33 mobo with onboard graphics
2 x 512mb of ddr 667 ram.

You can easily spend more money, but this is WAY faster and when OC'd can match and beat a FX-57.

I take it he only uses this for word/internet?

yeah..true, but like you said on the bottom of your post..he barelly uses the rig he's got now and so he doesnt want to invest much, plus once i stick a real p4 in that rig and up the ram..it'll be just fine for his needs :beer:

as long as you don't spend more money than its worth. :beer:

still, i play around on my friends old P4s and i'm dieing when using those pcs. They are so slow and loud! lol
