whats the highest reasonable/stable OC i should expect to get with my eVGA 8800gt SC when it arrives tomorrow on my stock cooler? i do not think i am going to put an aftermarket on it, and just want to know what other people are getting.

Thanks.

It also depends on how good your case cooling is, since it is single slot

I wouldn't overclock it with the stock cooler at all.

Mine went from 625 to 730 on the stock cooler just fine. I had the fan turned up to 60% (all I could stand noise wise). It worked great. On water it's a hell of a lot cooler and quieter and running at 762 now.

Some people are getting excellent results w/ the stock cooler when they crank the fan up. You should be able to get it up to SSC speeds at least...probably 730-750. With an aftermarket cooler and vGPU mod you can get up to 864 or so. RAM doesn't look like it's going to do anything special even w/ a volt mod. I've even read that running it over 975 will slowly kill it.

Of course my input is based solely on other's reports, so take it w/ a grain of salt. My GT will be here on Monday!

864 is crazy high for even water cooling, i know i saw *one* guy get that over at XS, but he may have just been luck to get a highly binned chip.

my A3 GTS can run 702rop from 513 stock, i would think the new (65nm) manufacturing process should yeild at least 800. thats still pretty high though.

I wouldn't say kill it, but probably force you to run at defaults again after a while. But this is the same with most graphics cards...

I got my 8800 GT SC to 800/1000/1650, it heated up to 74 C running 3DMark06 and was not very stable while playing Crysis, locked up after 20 mins of play,
I downclocked it untill I get a better cooler to 750/1000/1700 and it runs OK like that

im not looking for anything crazy..but something in the 700's and 1000 would be nice.

They should all at least be able to get to the SSC spec 700/1000/1728 unless they bin the GPU's which I doubt

Why wouldn't they bin them?

Ive notice most online stores have there own 'branded' cards. What are these like? do they overclock as well as the EVGA or Zotac ones?

Here's a link (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=535007) to my success story involving OCing on the stock cooler. I did the BIOS volt mod, and OC'd to 741/1728/951 w/o issues on the stock cooler. Max temps under ATI Tool load were 70 w/ fan on 100%.

If you turn the fan up I see no issues w/ taking your card as far as it wants to go on the stock cooler. Just be wary on the RAM OC as posted in several threads here and elsewhere on the web.

738/1836/999 For benching 100% fan speed 57C
720/1782/950 For gaming 65% fan speed 64C max

Going to do that bios volt mod thing and try for higher GPU/Shader clocks within the week.

As suggested higher memory speeds currently isn't recommened. Problem with them is they are probably overheating and dying I'd say. So only keep it at those speeds for benchmarking I think is recommened.

for me... so far stable at 720/1750/950 , fan at 60% max temp 76c

don't think I am gonna push it much more...
