Right now I have my win2k box with 2 nic's in it running ICS, one nic connected to a switch providing Inet access, and one connected to my cable modem.

Is there anyway I can hook the cable modem straight up to the Hub, so my box won't need to be on permanently, ie. through the uplink port somehow?

In that case you would need a router.

buy a router

I payed for a ip before I got the router and I had to constantly refresh my IP and restart the modem (pain in the A$$)

I got a router and never asked my cable company about it ;) What they don't know can't hurt them.

I have the linksys cable switch and it's a nice unit. Just about sets it's self up. The Time Warner Co. here in NY could care less if you pay for the extra IP and you don't need it anyway with the linksys unit. It uses DHCP to assing new addresses to all your pc's and gives them all net access at the same time. If you have any cash (LOL who does) I would look into a good cable router. Their price is well worth saving in agrivation.
