This confused me, trying to overclock my Q6600. I could easily change the multiplay between x6-x9 but the clock speed or whatever seems set to 266 and I cannot change it. 266 x 9 ... I can only seem to adjust the FSP speed to overclock it which is currently set to 1066.

I am confused!!!

think of it as backwards overclocking, compared to intel chipsets or the old 939

if you want 3.0 on your chip, leave your multi at 9 and set the FSB to 1333 and what that does is make it 333x9 if you want 400x8 then you need 1600 on the fsb....

stock is 266x9 (1066)

start with your ram linked and synced

wierd, so I can't do 1600 by 9 then for 3.6ghz cause my ram wont run that high?

My ram will cap out at 1200 ...

That's not good then. I had anticipated running at 1600 or (400) was 800ddr2 ram ... Oh well I cannot run it synched or lined then if the fbs of the ram can only hit 1200 ... It's kingston hyper ddr2 1066 ram, my motherboards base is 1066 fbs, so on their own they can be synched and linked but damn.

So if I wanna achieve 3.6ghz on my Q6600 I wont be able to link or synch the ram and do a ratio with my board then? Cause my ram cannot be set to 1600FBS... For some reason I thought 1600 FBS = 800 mhz ram ... I guess I was wrong :(

yes if your ram does 1200 then thats 600

1066 ram is 533 1:1

you would actually be downclocking to 400x9 1:1 linked and synced would be 800 and 1600 fsb...

later you can try unlinked and get your ram higher and keep the system to 400x9 and 1600fsb....

you can also try 450x8 for 3.6 for ddr2 900 and 1800fsb....

Really? but that's not how it was displaying in the motherboard setup when I was adjusting the FBS ... and the highest I could set my ram at was 1400 with the motherboars settings.

Basicly I thought 1600 was the bus speed and 400 was the fbs ...

Basicly if I crank my fbs to 1200 with the board it in turn cranks my ram to 1200mhz by the looks of it and that really confuses me. Same as if I leave it at default 1066fbs, the ram is synced and linked at 1066 as well... But the ram cannot go higher then 1400 in the settings.

Hence my confusion!

dude link and sync and you'll be 1:1

your ram is never gonna go 1400 anyway

if you link and sync then its all double pumped from the cpu freq to the ram to the fsb

400x9 = ddr2 800 = 1600 FSB

Intels FSB is quad pumped, a 1066 chip is 266 (266x4=1066) when 1:1 it runs in sync with the orignal non pumped FSB (266) and DDR2 runs and double the stock FSB speed(533)

if your at 1600FSB/400 You're memory would be at DDR800, Or you could just run unlinked then your memory isn't affected when you overclock.

Hm, interesting. Thanks. I'll try that when I get my system back. I recieved it today and it didn't work, so I had to send it back.

actually the NV boards match quad pumped fsb to ram fsb the same way... ie its 1066 to 1066 when in 1:1 linked mode... i suggest just going unlinked with ram at stock speeds and just oc the cpu. the unlinked mode doesnt show to hurt performance at all when i used the older AR board...
