Right now I have a linksys 8 port switch, which seems to make my whole network slow. I thought a switch was supposed to be faster than a hub, but like my comp to comp transfers with the switch are .2mb where as my hub was 6 megs. Should I take the switch back and get an 8 port hub?

hey,
not sure if your switch is the same as the ones i use, but can you tell me if the ports are lit up (specifically how many lights).
that should tell you if you are running in 10 or 100 speed. also, do you still have the hub to compare by switching them immediately out after testing the switch to see if the hub will definitely bring it back up to speed or not?
i have two linksys switch/routers, two 5 port switches, one 16 port switch, and one 4 port hub (all linksys). i get the same speed between computers no matter which one i use.
if you're only getting 200KB (which it sounds like that's what you meant) there is a problem somewhere. just cant say 100% for sure that it's the switch's fault or not without troubleshooting.
good luck! keep us posted.
make sure you have your NIC cards set 100Mg full duplex
are you using XP, because if you are, get rid of QoS, it slows things down
and your switch should be faster than a Hub

i plugged my old switch in and everything started to go a lot faster even the internet, so i think i am going to take the switch back and maybe get a 5 port switch or 16 port hub.

I am going to take it back my switch and get a new one, cause my friend and i were talking and at the last lan party we had, we were only getting like 20k transfers so we both plugged into the router after a few people left and got 4megs. Back to best buy i go
