well i searched the internet for a place that i thought would be most helpful, and here is where i landed. :)

i just recently picked up a Gainward G2 ti 450 golden sample, so of course right away i go for the 3dmark 2000 to pit it up against my previous card and system and it was disapointing to say the least, here is the comparison old to new -
1024*768*16
NVIDIA GeForce DDR
Intel Pentium III 800MHz - 5660

1024*768*16
Generic VGA
Intel Pentium 4 1500MHz - 5676

the p3 was running pc133. the p4 pc100 - the pc133 died on me-
and is it normal for 3dmark to see my graphics chipset as Generic VGA? here's a copy and paste,

Project Name My Project
CPU Intel Pentium 4 1500 Mhz
3D Accelerator NVIDIA GeForce2 Ti
Graphics Chipset Generic VGA

generic? is that normal? and..... if i choose the Matching your current project (exact CPU speed) option, 3dmark keeps referring to my old card - tnt2 m64- not the g2 ti. the tnt2 and drivers were uninstalled. so, could someone clue me in.

thx PF

Download Detatnator destroyer and completely wipe out your tnt12 drivers, i thin k there are still ome fragments lurking, then go www.m3dzone.com and download the 22.50 Det XP drivers, and run it again...the best way to install a new video card though is to reformat......

well i did the above, along with reinstalling the intel chipset and this was the result -

1024*768*16
Generic VGA
Intel Pentium 4 1500MHz - 7172

but why the Generic VGA - thats bugging the crap out of me.
and 3dmark still reports my tnt2 when i go to compare it to simular configs. and lastly... would some good pc133 mem make much of a difference?

thx PF

I think 3dmark keeps whatever card was installed when it was installed... try uninstalling 3dmark, run regclean of some type, then reinstall to get it detecting the new card... just a thought.

I think those scores are in line with what they should be... what about 3dmark 2001?

ok under 3dmark 2001 -

1024*768*32
NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/Pro/Ti
Intel Pentium 4 1572MHz - 4287

this being done by squeezing 72 more MHz out of cpu, and vid card at 290/510 (amazingly stable, no xtra cooling)
so... does that score fit my particular set up, or does it blow?

questions - what does the agp aperture size in bios do?
and since im using some truly generic pc100 memory, im thinking of placing an order with crucial for some pc133, good or bad choice? suggestions?

thx PF
