View Full Version : SimCity Societies review up
IGN has their review up for SimCity Societies. http://pc.ign.com/articles/834/834720p1.html
A 5.8 ouch. I didn't expect much from this game but I was kind of hoping it would be good in it's own way.
my gf pre-ordered it lol, she was like "you got that crysis game" so i was like ok... haha shes a big sim fan :) so its ok
Personally I'm still waiting for the gamespot review(unless Jeff Gertsman reviews it) before I make any decisions, but so far this doesn't look promising.

Wow its being reviewed already? I did not think this was even coming out till next year!
I look forward to it, because it is another in the sim city lineup, although the simplification of it is a com in my book, or from what I read about hte planning of it some months ago.
Wil lread the review tonight thanks
Wow. The way "energies" works sounds absurdly idiotic, if the review is to believed.
That is all.

Wow it sounds even worse then when the designers talked about it a few months back
There is another sim city type of game... City Life World edition. I tried that out, and was totally underwhelmed. This new version of SimCity really sounds like it took that and then added candy cane streetlamps and attacks by clowns.
Ridiculous. Sim City might not ever be a smash blockbuster breakout game like Crysis will be, because the game itself is geared towards a specific audience, whereas shooters are more "arcade friendly" very low learning curve so that anyone can play...
I hope someone comes up with a sim city 5....i still play 4, but it could really use a makeover and some more advanced features perhaps a hexagonal based grid instead of square, adding curved roads, a broader range of industry/commerce each with there own effects. Teh ability to choose between fascist/conservative/liberal/socialist forms of governemntSome govermental choices. perhaps detailed governers for configured control and updates in neighborhoods, a la the Civ series. Of course, making it multithreaded to take the power of hte quadcore processor and run the continent and other cities inthe background while you are working on a specific one (if done in SC4 style)
No cotton candy flavored n00b game. And not so simple to plop down a few dozen houses some crappy jobs, bump it to cheetah and come back when you have a few million simoleons ;)

...Of course, that comes with micromanagement price...something which with good foresight can be eliminated (since apparently one of the major reasons for ths absurd shift in direction was elimination of micro - too bad that didn't work out too well either, see below)
Examples from SC4:
~ the individual budgeting of power stations could simpily be auto-adjusted by default to serve the required amount to the city
~ individual budgeting of school/police/fire/hospital range/staffing could also be adjusted to match what is needed
What doesn't kill micromanagement is elimnating all the old ones and introducing new ones called "energies". From what the review notes, micro is probably even worse then in SC4 due to the messy allocation of buildings relations to "energies". Someone screwed up big time.

Personally, i LOVE the micromanagement style in Sim City 4. I wish there was MORE of it, and more options.
Sim City 5 should be like...an overhauled Sim City 4. More styles of buildings, More power options, more water options ( i mean come on, other than pumps and such...there's a water treatment plant...they could add MORE to it than that ).
More Options to deal with trash, Better Neighbor deals ( such as..being able to negotiate prices better, and more import/export options ). And more Taxation options. Along with more/better city ordinances.
Hell, i'd be happy with just another expansion to Sim City 4 that gave us more options, even if they left the graphics alone!
Oh! and the option to buy parts of a neighbor's property. If its un-owned land you want to buy...you buy pieces of it. If a neighbor owns it...then you can make a deal or something. Would be nice to be able to expand your city, outside of the original size of the land plot that you bought. THAT would be a VERY helpful feature!
Or the ability to take multiple neighbors, and converge them all into ONCE city. You buy out the neighbor's entire city, and suddenly their land, and city, and sims are YOURS. THAT would be a FANTASTIC feature!
The Simtropolis fans are already saying it's full of fail while the tilted mill fans are a little more hopeful. EA really knows how to split their fans up. Just look at Need for Speed Pro Street for another example.
